Using a cane in the handicap line when boarding in New Orleans?

WE are scheduled for 9 Dec12 cruise on Carnival Conquest to Western Caribbean. We use a cane and was wondering if we can use the handicap line when boarding in New Orleans?

When you arrive and drop your bags with the porter. Tell your porter that you use a cane and need access to the handicapped line. He will let you in a special door. You can bring one other person person with you, not your entire party. We did it last time with my mom. She's not handicapped, just needs a little assisstance and like you, uses a cane. There was no problem letting us use the line.
