On CCL Victory next week and would like to rent some type of convertable. Would appreciate suggestions on rental agencies near cruise port, best vehicle to rent, prices, and what not to miss on our island tour.:)

We were in St. Maarten the end of April 2005. We rented from http://www.arthurscarrental.com. The owner, Arthur, is a great person to deal with and very professional. Honestly, we can't say enough good about him.

To reach his car rental place you walk past the others at the cruise ship dock (the guys trying to rent to you will direct you to Arthurs). You go outside the gates and it is right across the road. Maybe a 5 minute walk altogether. He has a little airconditioned office.

Arthur will give you a map and tell you highlights of the Island. We stopped briefly at Orient and then went to the French Airport area (ask Arthur). They have many excellent local fish restaurants. A great stop for lunch! Another not to be missed sight are the airplanes that land 50 feet above your head on the dutch side at Maho Bay. There is plenty of parking in this area if you park in the casino parking lot. We arrived there around 1pm and experienced about 10 planes landing in a 2 hour period. We had pop & beer at the Sunset Beach Bar and enjoyed the experience tremendously. It takes around 2 hours to drive around the entire island and it is a simple painless drive.

The only thing about a convertable is it can be very HOT so I would actually recommend a car with AC. Just our preference as we have done it both ways. Try Arthur though, you won't be disappointed.:)
