kerrynj Posted October 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2012 Hi, We took a great cruise with friends on the Carnival Elation , with stops at Progreso and Cozumel. We were not sure what to do at these ports, so we did a little advance planning and were very glad we did. If you are cruising and stop at Progreso, try the following excursion: Lawsons Original Yucatan Excursions . You book it yourself, not through the cruise desk, so the price is very reasonable! We loved it! It's easy to find on the Internet and a great deal for those who don't want to climb on a bus with a bunch of other tourists. Ralf picked up the 8 of us at the bus station, and took us on the greatest excursion. We could choose where we wanted (and didn't want to go). We had a great tour of Merida, with stops for sherbet and tacos at a real taco stand, not a tourist trap. Ralf knows his local history and it was so relaxing to travel with him. We finished our day with drinks at a beautiful restored hacienda. We couldn't have asked for more. The van was stocked with cold drinks and had exceptionally good air-conditioning. I have to honestly say, that having Ralf pick us up and show us around, was a good as having a family member waiting there for us. You can't miss with this customed excursion.! Nole0202 Posted October 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2012 Progresso is one of the best ports for excursions. Really the only site that allows day trips to the major Mayan sites. It also has excellent liquor prices.
