Has anyone visited this museum? It sounded very interesting in my DK Eyewitness guide book but the DenRus lady I'm corresponding with made it sound like a bad idea to visit it. Anyone have comments to share?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to include it in my itinerary. Things I'm considering dropping in order to include it: visit to Yeliseevsky food store, ride on the Metro.

Help?

Barbara

Exactly what all did the Eyewitness Guide say about this Museum?

I have never heard of it in any of the Tour Operators literature nor any of the websites I've looked at. ;)

If you are going to the Hermitage, you will see one of the two largest and most distinguised museums in the World. After a few hours in the Hermitage, I will be Museumed Out.

Personally, I'd go for the Art in the Metros and the Shopping. :D

Hi Barbara

Another name for the Museum of Arts. It is in a very interesting glass domed building of the Art Institute, a very prestigous art school. It location is just east of Fontanka Canal 2 block south of the Neva River. It is on Solyanoy Street just across the canal from the famous Summer Gardens. It is just a little out of the way if you are not visiting the Summer Gardens, Field of Mars, Engineer's Castle or other interesting areas. If you did go there there is a little cafe across the street that has live jazz music almost everyday called NeoJazz that might be nice to have lunch in.

There are right around 120 museums in St Petersburg and with that variety, you can guess that some are very sparcely attended and just about any interest is catered to. Is it more interesting that Yelsiveesky store or the metro? Depends on your interest level in art but for general interest, the walk along Nevsky pr and the metro is more popular. What are your interests?
