Andym Posted May 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Today we got a call from our TA. Celebrity have sent us a new invoice AND added the tips before we cruise. £97.00 per person ($349). I have asked them to remove the tips. I will tip when I have had the service and not before. Using TPKellers tip calculator it comes to $287 . So who is the extra tip for? superjerryw Posted May 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 6, 2004 You did the right thing. Tipping is still supposed to be for service actually provided, not service you may or may not get. As for that extra $62, I really would like to hear the explanation for that. Perhaps we are now supposed to tip the cruise director and the pastry chef...... teedee Posted May 6, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Using the calculator the price is right if htere are 4 people in the cabin. That includes Waiter, Asst. Waiter, Maitre D', Cabin Attendant and Chief Housekeeper. Is that how many are in your group? BB5953 Posted May 6, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 6, 2004 I don't understand, they sent you an updated invoice and pre-charged the tips? That is absurd! Is this something new that Celebrity is doing? I think that would cause me to find a different line. <applet code="countdown.class" CODEBASE="http://*************/java-sys" width="203" height="25"> <param name="font" value="lcdb0"> <param name="2005" value=2004> <param name="4" value=4> <param name="01" value=26> <param name="18" value=18> </applet>
teedee Posted May 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 6, 2004 What am I doing wrong? When I went to the calculator and put in 4 passengers the number came up the same. I've never used it before so maybe I am doing something wrong? raudacruise Posted May 6, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Sounds like somebody is trying to pull a fast one. You should tell the TA to have that taken off your bill immediately. Sadly, Celebrity operations in Europe (especially the UK) are very poor (to put it nicely). George & MaryBeth
Andym Posted May 6, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 6, 2004 George and MaryBeth, We are having the tips removed. There are only the 2 of us in the cabin. My TA does not know why the new invoice has arrived. One good thing is that the price of the cruise has dropped since we booked and that has been reflected on the new invoice. Just the tips were the sour note. BTW we have not really had bad dealings with Celebrity (UK) except they won't talk to us direct. Any questions have to go through our TA. Rare TPKeller Posted May 6, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Interesting. Are you in a cabin with a butler? If you add in the butler it comes out to $385 for 4 people for 7 days. Or perhaps there are issues with the dollar to pound conversion. If you figure out where they got that number from I would like to hear about it. cruisintwinsmom Posted May 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Celebrity (USA) won't talk much to me either regarding booked trip--have to go through the TA. Any other info they are usually OK, although frequently get different answers from different reps.
