Best Western Oakland Park

Has anyone stayed in this hotel in Fort Lauderdale? We are sailing on the Zuiderdam in October and need a hotel for pre & post cruise. I found a very good price pre cruise ($65) and a decent price post cruise ($119). Had a hard time finding anything under $100 for a post cruise night due to the boat show being in town. That night happens to be my b'day and I thought it would be fun to celebrate before going home.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated!

Not the best area/hotel to start and finish your vacation. Its about 12 miles from the port/airport. You can do better.

If the boat show is giving you a problem finding a room, look west of I95 in towns such a Plantation, Sunrise, Davie etc. Stay away from SR84. Fortunately you haven't waited until the last minute you should be able to find a decent hotel elsewhere.

I agree not a good area for BW Oakland. Try Best Western Oceanside Inn for Pre cruise, then maybe Hard Rock Hotel for your birthday. Treat yourself. Pre cruise there are alot of places on 17th causeway that are better. Because of the boat show, you will have a hard time anywhere near the beaches. Or even US1.

I agree with all of the above. Hard Rock would be worth treating yourself if you like that kind of atmoshpere. (Casino, music everywhere including elevator and underwater in the pool, lots of nightlife at on-property restuarants and bars). May get better rates by going west OR just a little south to Dania and Hollywood. You can probably get a room on Hollywood Beach for under $100 and then celbrate your bday w/dinner on the ocean (there are a wide variety of restaurants along the 2 mile Boardwalk. You could also celebrate in Downtown Hollywood. The Holly Trolley runs between the beach and downtown (about two miles) and I believe costs $1. Check out www.visithollywood.org or www.sunny.org for listings by city.

Love to know where you end up and how you like it.

Thanks for all the input, will take your advice and look elsewhere. I really like the idea of the Hard Rock for my birthday ... definitely my cup of tea!

Miss Hlywd - will check the 2 sites you suggested and see what's available.
