My friend is leaving out June 20 out of Ft Lauderdale--What she is wanting to know is --is there a rental car place in Costa Maya Port --they want to drive to the ruins themselves instead of a tour--it will be 4 persons.

There are no rental cars in Costa Maya. It is a very small port - just the cruise ship area and the small fishing village. You can rent golf carts to go between the two. To get to the ruins, go with Ivan and David at http://www.chacchobenruins.com/. They are absolutely phenominal. You will get so much more out of your visit when you learn of the history and culture of the Mayan people. They are better and cheaper than the tours booked through the cruise ships.
