WineandRoseLady Posted January 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2013 Hi, My sympathy goes out to those dealing with the impact of fires all over Australia. It seems trivial to ask, but would the 4WD trip to the Blue Mtns from Sydney still be enjoyable, or biking down Mt. Wellington in Hobart? On Celebrity Solstice Jan. 28 (Auckland) to Feb. 15 (Perth). Thanks!
antipodean99 Posted January 18, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2013 I think it will be even more interesting providing it does not get cancelled anyway. The trails may be blocked or Nat Parks closed.
bobhsv Posted January 18, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2013 They sound like fabulous things to do. You have absolutely no need to worry. If, and I say 'if', there was a fire in the area, all roads/parks will be closed. Human life and property are top priority for our dedicated firies. Jacs Posted January 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2013 If there are fires in the area then chances are the parks will be closed, if there are no fires then it will still be lovely, the whole area hasn't burnt out or anything like that. Still lots of nature to see.
spirit28 Posted January 19, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Fires down here in Tas were fortunately no where near Mt Wellington or the city. You should be good to go assuming nothing happens between now and then.. Don't you think you are cheating a bit by not riding up the mountain before enjoying the trip back down :-) Hopefully it will be a clear day for you - the views are fantastic from the mountain. Thanks! There are no fires in the Blue Mountains at this time and nothing to affect your tour. Days are a bit hazy because of the heat and a little smoke from a long way away. Currently raining around Sydney and much cooler today at 24C as opposed to 48c yesterday, but it will be warm again next week.
WineandRoseLady Posted January 19, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Thank you all for the comments and updates. We shall look forward to these excursions as well as the walking/hiking/biking we plan to do in other ports! And thank you for the caution, Spirit28, but we've cycled uphill often enough that we won't distress over one "free" ride down... Stay safe!
