Question about New Orleans Port

Never cruised out of this port before and we are leaving on Superbowl Sunday! If we arrive at the port parking around 9am, will we be able to walk out of the parking facility to the French quarter for a few hours before coming back to get on the boat? Will they take our luggage that early in the morning or should we just go back to our car and get it before we get on the boat?? Thanks for any info!!

I also have a question about this port. Never crusied out of this one and wondered if someone could tell me a good hotel with cruise package where we can leave our car? Thanks.

You should be able to catch the Riverfront Streetcar in front of or very near the port and ride it down to the French Quarter. Have not done this, but looks very doable by the maps you can access at http://www.neworleansonline.com, scroll down a little to "Popular Links" on the right hand side, select "New Orleans Maps", scroll down to "Transportation Maps" and you can see the port map and the map for the street car routes.

It's a little bit of a walk, but yes...and the map posted is good. AND, to answer your other question, yes there will be porters to take you bags that early. They might not let you in the building that early, but they will let your bags in.

Thanks! We plan on getting there EARLY because of SuperBowl and if they will take the bags, we will take a little walk and do some tailgating!! Thanks for the info!
