Husband is not excited

Wow you guys! Thanks for all of the encouragement. He still isn't really excited, he's just trying to act excited to make me happy. What he doesn't realize is that it is just as important to me for him to be happy as it is to him for me to be happy. Sorry guys, I wouldn't trade my DH for anything, so thanks for the offers, but you'll have to wait for YOUR next cruise. I will definetly let you know what he thinks. With that said, we leave Saturday morning. Just hope the tropical storm behaves. Thanks again.

Hi, hope you have a great time! Went through the same thing myself and once he was onboard, he was a changed man! Not only did he love cruising, he couldn't believe I hadn't talked him into it sooner! He's thrilled that we are going again, and should be a PR guy for cruising now, if you could talk to his friends and co-workers! Oh and by the way, He also learned if I'm happy and excited, he's a much happier guy!;)

The cruise may seem steep at first but it does not have to be so expensive once you get on board.

Absolutely! That's what I love about a cruise. It is you who determines how expensive it will end up being by the time you disembark. The initial cost may seem like a lot more than many other land-based vacations. But when you consider that your price includes just about everything except gratituties, a cruise can actually end up being far cheaper than many other types of vacations where your first cost is in no way your last. Sure, the price of a hotel for seven nights will probably be cheaper than your cabin on a cruise ship for the same time period. But that room price will not include meals, entertainment, sightseeing, etc.

With a cruise, you don't have to spend a bundle on the extras. While many people do, that is their choice. You don't have to make appointments for spa treatments, spend a bundle in the shops, buy art at the auction, drink like a fish, do organized excursions in every port and play bingo every chance you get. And, the best thing is that even if you choose to do none of these things, you can still have a wonderful vacation. You still can wander the ports and see a lot of things on your own, you can still eat to your heart's content, see all the shows, relax with a good book, sun and swim at the pools, send your children to participate in the ship's free childrens' programs ... you name it. At a hotel, there is little you can do without spending money.

So, if you set yourself a definite budget for onboard spending, and stick to it, the cost of that cruise will usually come out far cheaper than the cost of a similar land-based vacation. I know because I've priced them out.

I felt the same (not excited) about cruising for years, and finally for our 25th Anniversary my DW let me know SHE was going on an Anniversary Cruise, with or without me! (of course, I went....)

Now it is just the opposite, I found a good deal, and booked our last cruise without telling my DW. When she got home from work that evening I said 'guess where we're going'? ;)

We are going on an all-inclusive trip to Jamaica later this year, and I found myself looking at the price and thinking, geez, we could have taken a long cruise for this amount of $$. I am just afraid that I will like it as much as cruising, and then have to plan at least two big vacations every year instead of just one!

Enjoy the trip and let us know how it went..

The entertainment and the meals are included. You don't have to drive anywhere. You get to visit other countries. I'll bet he's going to have a very relaxed vacation and the fun is free. I don't think cabin space is as small as he's imagining it to be. If cruising wasn't fun it wouldn't have grown into the industry it's become. I have no idea how many people choose cruising vacations every year but I'll bet the number is growing and I'll also bet that the the vast majority are repeat cruisers.

Tell him to do the math. Our first cruise happened when I was trying to plan our 32nd wedding anniversary by spending a 3 day weekend in the Florida Keys. The cost of the hotels and the meals and the driving, we live in Ft.Lauderdale, well I just didn't feel we were getting a good bang for the buck; then someone at where I work suggested a cruise and for a couple hundred more we could go on an 8 day cruise. We booked, we sailed and we're hooked on cruising.

My husband used to complain about cruising...money, too confining, dressing for dinner. Then we went on Grand Princess two years ago. For some reason he just loved that ship and the whole Princess experience. He booked the next Princess cruise this past February and now we are going on another Princess cruise to Alaska in July. I think it just takes getting the right fit to make some people happy. :o

To Kryos - You bring up an interesting idea. What if a a ship offered an extended cruise (10 days instead of 7 or 8) which stayed at each port more than a day?

That would probably be a nice cruise. Problem is that I doubt they would do it ... especially in an area like the Caribbean or Alaska. It probably costs by the hour to remain in port ... the ships also probably have a schedule whereby one ship has to get out so that another line's ship could use the dock space tomorrow.

The only place I've seen overnight ports is sometimes on Hawaii itineraries. HAL has an itinerary next January that offers an overnight in both Honolulu and Bora Bora.

My husband and I leave on our first cruise this Saturday on Caribbean Princess. He is not very excited about it all because he thinks we are spending too much money and doesn't know why we couldn't just do all this stuff on land. He is dissappointed about a lot of things that he thought would be different like having to buy a card for soda, small staterooms, having to dress up to eat, and not getting free alcohol. I think once he gets there that he is going to love it. But, what can I say to him? I feel bad.

Cruising is way better (in my opinion) than a "driving" vacation. Tell hubby he unpacks once.....he won't be driving around wondering what and where you two are going to eat.....entertainment at you fingertips.....won't go hungry.:)

On our first cruise my DH was not excited either...come to find out...he was fearful of the "Big Boat"!! Even though he used to fish 50 miles out in the ocean with a 35 foot boat, he did not seem interested at all. Make a long story short, my sister and I booked a cruise on the Grand Princess only 2 weeks out (I couldn't wait any longer!!) They got an inside room and we got a balcony room, Aloha deck in the aft. WELL, when we took our first steps out on that balcony, I screamed and he wowed with his first drink in hand!! Mind you we were still docked at the pier with a balcony view of the harbor!

We have 3 boys (24,19,17) and he was also feeling guilty about leaving them home. Not me!!! They were in safe hands with my mother who we called that Thursday from the ship. Being our first, the rest of the cruise was an absolute wonder. After raising 3 boys, we deserved this and so did our long marriage! This cruise was Feb. 2003 and you guessed it, in Nov. 2003 we took the boys along where they got an inside cabin right around the corner from our balcony (yes, once you get a balcony you never go back!!) The boys were absolutely estatic about the cruise and met other kids onboard and still IM them today. What wonderful memories!!

Now, yes we are leaving the kids home again and cruising on the Caribbean Princess July 30th with friends!

My 75 year old babysitter some 21 years ago said something to me that is still embedded in my brain. "Don't wait until you retired or can afford a nice vacation for yourselves because one of you could be very sick or passed on, if you have to, take out a loan to pay for memories of a lifetime. She is so right - we strugged for awhile, but life is too short to not "just do it".

Well, as you can see my DH thoroughly enjoyed his first cruise with all of the doubts. In fact, when we got home he said "I rather sit on orange crates and go on cruises than not".

Enjoy and Experience the Best. It's Where You Belong!! Me Too!!

You may want to go on princess.com and bring up the bridgecam for your ship. My hubby started checking the cams for our ship and others months before our trip. So I started doing that too. If the ship's cam is pointed the right way, you can see some great scenary. Tell your hubby that it looks better in person.;)

We are sailing now. I think he is enjoying himself, but for him, I think the verdict is out until the end of the week. I love it though. I will post again when we return and let you all know. As for now, 35 cents a minute is steep. This is fairly slow when you are used to good high speed connections. Bye for now.

I love to cruise and go on vacation any place possible. I will go w/anyone that will go w/me. I want to go to Hawaii so bad, so I guess I will have to do that one alone. All my friends have already been there. My husband hates to go anywhere. He likes to just sit home and count his MONEY. LOL. Maybe I should look for a new husband. I am 55 and life is too short to sit home doing nothing.

I just leave mine at home and go with either one of my sons, my mom and sister or a girlfriend. He has no problem staying home because he was never that excited the time we did a 4 day cruise together. This way everyone is happy. Nothing worse than traveling with someone who is not excited to be going in the first place...............Corinne

I had to convince hubby that I was going on a cruise and that we always do his kind of land vacation.....now it was my turn.

He was sooooo hooked after the first day. Now he is on the internet with a tabbed notebook looking for the best deals.

Hope your trip was wonderful, let us know the minute you get back!

I'll be interested in the comments after his cruise.

We just went to Ohio from Florida last month and Hubby told me that all the expenses added up to the price of one person's fare on a cruise!! This will be our 5th cruise, and he's sold on the economical aspects of the all-inclusive vacation. The Ship travels, not him! Of course, keep him out of the casino!! LOL

Let us know how it went!! Lynne And--we were on the Caribbean Princess last year and had a great time!

O.K. Of course he did enjoy himself. I almost threw up last night when I watched him down three plates of food at the buffet after we had already eaten like a five course meal in the Palm dining room. Anyway, he took like a dozen chocolate chip cookies down to our room just in case we got hungry. Yeah right, I don't think I'll be hungry again for like three weeks. Anyway, I think he'd do it all over again for the chocolate chip cookies. He loved the ports and shore excursions. Went snorkeling like 3 times. We both still feel like we are rocking. There is no place like home.

Hurray for you! And a "aren't you glad you went?" for Hubby. Once that first one is under his belt-it's smooth sailing for you. Don't be surprised if HE is the first one looking up your next cruising options. You won't even have to ask him!!

Glad you're back. How did you like MUTS? Lynne
