JRGibJR Posted April 28, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2004 We did this excursion on our trip and enjoyed it very much. The boat has a crew of two, dual outboard engines, and is quite a wild ride once you get into open water. They made two stops for snorkeling, one at Christmas Cove and the other at Honeymoon beach on St. John. If you're ready for great snorkeling, a pristine beach, and a wild boat ride I'd definitely recommend this trip. If you are looking for something more sedate you may want to try another excursion. yankfan Posted April 29, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Hi-thanks for the info. A question - Is the snorkeling done off the beach? or do you "jump" off the boat? Thanks!
shecat Posted April 29, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Thanks for the info. About how long did you get at the stops? I figure the faster the boat the more time you have to explore . lmmn Posted May 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Do you think a 12 and 17 year old would enjoy this excursion? Also, did you see any turtles while snorkeling? Codfish Posted May 20, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Just did this from the Triumph on May 11th. My wife and I loved it.We were told if you want a wild ride, sit at the front of the boat if you wanted a more calm ride, sit at the back. (we sat in the front) We were at each beach between 45 min and an hour. you jump in off the boat, but at the second site there was a nice sandy beach if you wanted to swim ashore (20ft) The first stop there wasn't much of a reef, but the point was to see turtles and we did! my wife even saw a stingray. The second site was more of a coral reef. I saw many fish I recognized from my local fish store. (and many I didn't) If your 12 and 17yr olds like swimming and seeing fish and turtles, they'll love this
joyride Posted June 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2004 I've done Capt. Nautica twice now and it is great. The ride is fast and a bit bumpy so I would not suggest it if you have a bad back or anything. When you are on the boat, face forward so you are sort of "riding" the bumps and it will be fun and comfortable. The snorkeling stops and the crew are awesome. I have a great turtle pic if you click on my webshots and go to Underwater Photos from 8/3 and you will see my "TURTLE WOO HOO" Picture. I took that in turtle cove with Capt. Nautica. It's my favorite pic ever! <BODY> Joyride View my pictures at: http://community.webshots.com/user/jverette CELEBRITY CONSTELLATION 11/20/2004 CORAL PRINCESS GIRL'S TRIP 4/7/2005 Sun Princess - Caribbean Medley 4/9/2004 Grand Princess - Eastern Caribbean 8/3/2003 Grand Princess - Western Caribbean 4/6/2003 RCL Radiance - Pacific Northwest 9/2002 Star Princess - Alaska 8/2002 Crown Princess - Fall Foliage 9/2001 Sun Princess - Panama Canal 2000 Carnival Elation - Mexican Riveria 1998 The Old Star Princess - Eastern Caribbean 1997 Sun Princess - Western Caribbean 1996 RCL Viking Serenade - Baja Mexico 1994
lmmn Posted June 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2004 I do not see this listed as one of the excursions offered by Princess. Anyone book this through Princess? joyride Posted June 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Yes you book it through Princess. It is called St. John Expedition Snorkeling - I think it is tour STT-V. It doesn't mention Capt. Nautica - but that's it. You will have such a good time on this trip!! lmmn Posted June 7, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Thank you very much for all the info. Unfortunately, it's not offered by CARIBBEAN Princess. BBMom Posted June 8, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 8, 2004 Immm, We will be sailing on the Caribbean Princess June 26th. We have chosen the New Waves Castaway snorkel excursion through Princess. I was disappointed that Princess did not offer the Catpain Nautica excursion. Hopefully the New Waves excursion will also be a great trip.
lmmn Posted June 8, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 8, 2004 I'm so disappointed! I have done so much research and have finally decided that this was the excursion my kids would enjoy the most. To find it not offered on the Caribbean Princess is a huge disappointment. I guess the other cruiseships have contracts with Captain Nautica, so I cannot book independently. Doesn't seem fair that I cannot book it even this far in advance. BBmom - thank you for the recommendation of an alternative excursion. I'll have to check it out. Do you know if it goes to Buck Island? Do you know what kind of boat? BBMom Posted June 10, 2004 #13 Share Posted June 10, 2004 According to our Adventures Ashore booklet that came in our precruise docs, the boat is a two-deck power catamaran. The first stop is Great St. James Island and the second stop is Whistling Cay off the coast of St. John. We booked this excursion about two weeks ago for our June 26th sailing and were waitlisted. A few days later we were confirmed on a newly added afternoon excursion. There seems to be a lot interest in this excursion so hopefully it is a good one.
