lucyjohnz Posted June 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2005 We got reservations at the Accademia to see David. While the David statue is stunning (14 feet tall and it really seems alive), there was not much more at ALL to this museum. I've heard that the Uffizzi Museum is fantastic and I'd recommend that museum first, with Accademia second if you have time. If you do not pre-reserve at either museum, you will wait in line for at least an hour to get in.
usavvy2 Posted June 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2005 Book your tix ahead of time and see DAVID at the Accademia. Eat gelato. See the Duomo - it's marble is fabulous. (I didn't have time to see Uffizi so I can't recommend it but I've heard it's fabulous.) The (pad)locks on the Vecchio bridge (and the story behind them). jbond Posted June 14, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2005 You have to go to the Piazzale Michelangelo. The view is awesome. You can see the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Santa Croce, the Jewish Synagogue and the beautiful Tuscan countryside. This is what it looked like when we were there http://community.webshots.com/photo/204703768/205176884kfAAma
usavvy2 Posted June 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 14, 2005 yes I agree - if you can get on a tour that stops there, by all means - GO! Our tour bus (Princess cruise last year) drove through that area but the driver told us he wasn't allowed to stop as it wasn't one of his scheduled stops. With that, the entire bus yelled and pleaded for him to stop. (He STILL didn't stop - something about getting a ticket if he stopped because it wasn't on his itinerary.) Our bus didn't have that on the schedule but some more extensive ship tours did and they all raved about how wonderful the view was.
