Oasis Review

Recommended Posts

We were on the Oasis Eastern March 23. We stayed at Gallery One the night before our cruise. I chose Gallery One because there's a bedroom and a living room which works better for us because we have two teens. The price was also better than Embassy Suites. I love the location of the Gallery One. The mall restaurants and grocery stores are all easy to walk to. The only negative is both times we stayed there the wait was very long for a taxi to the port. We got to the cruise port around 1:00. Traffic was pretty bad getting to the port. Check in wasn't bad. When we got on board we went straight to Park Cafe. The Oasis felt way more crowded than any other ship we had been on. We always travel during spring break and on Voyager class or Freedom class of ships. The lines moved fast at Park Cafe and we did get a table. My son and husband loved the roast beef sandwiches. My daughter and I got cold turkey sandwiches and they were just ok. We did enjoy the flavored waters and cookies. We tried most of the cold pre made items during the week and didnt like any. We loved the breakfast burritos and quesadillas and grilled sandwiches. During the week we ate almost all our breakfasts and lunches at Park Cafe. It was always crowded but the lines moved fast. We had breakfast one day at Johnny Rockets and loved it. On our first day we did get called to the naughty room. We had thrown bottles of water in a duffle bag. They asked to check them out and then they put them back in the duffle and gave it to my husband. I always bring water and this was the first time we got called down. It wasn't a big deal. Our first night We had dinner at Giovonnis and we all loved it. It was our favorite meal of the week. We also loved Chops. Izumi was just ok. I ordered the hot plates and the chicken was bland. My husband and son loved the sushi. I didn't like any of the desserts at Izumi. We ate in the dining room four nights. We had my time dining and it was very very slow. We never had the same servers. The servers were all very nice but the service was just so slow. I might consider going back to regular dining because the service was so slow. The food was good. Maybe a little better with the new menues. I really liked the chicken Marsala and the lobster. I loved the bbb desert and the molten chocolate cake. My family enjoyed all their dinners too. My son turned 18 right before our cruise. He is a senior in high school. He did get to spend the week in the living room. He said they kicked out a lot of older kids the first night. I guess because he just turned 18 they let him stay. He likes to play video games so that was part of the reason he wanted to be in there. My daughter is 19 and she spent the week hanging out with me. Of course we had a great time but I'm sure she would have liked to meet people her age. I wish there was a teen room for ages 17 - 20. My husband loved the sports court. He played lots of basketball and ping pong. He zip lined the last day. He didnt even have to wait. I never went in any jacuzzis. They were always very crowded or closed. I like the solarium better on the Freedom class. On the Oasis it always seemed crowded plus you could here lots of noise from the Solarium Buffet. Not very relaxing. I also prefer the main pool on the Freedom Class. The pools are so divided on Oasis. I loved the boardwalk. Looking down on the aqua theatre from the sports deck was so neat. I enjoyed the dive shows and the belly flop contest at the aqua theatre. I enjoyed Hair Spray and the comedians. I thought the ice show and Come Fly with Me were just ok. We only had a hard time getting seats at one show and that's because we showed up late. We had reservations for all shows and we walked right in with no wait. The gym was very nice. The spa looked amazing but I didnt use it. The casino was fun. Its nice that half of it is non smoking. My son played black jack for the first time. We had an Amazing vacation on Oasis but If price is less on Freedom Class I will probably go on Freedom Class next year.

I read your comment regarding the wait for a taxi to the port. Doesn't Gallery One have a shuttle van to take guests to the port? We will be staying there in June. Also, do you know of a good reasonably priced place to eat dinner near the hotel?

Yes there is a shuttle but I didn't find out about it until after I checked in. So we just took a taxi as planned. We had dinner at PF Changs. It's always good. There's a food court in the mall with several places to eat. I also Saw a hamburger place when we walked to the store.

You stated that the MDR was very slow, how long on an average did it take each evening? Were you seated with others or a table for 2? I was just wondering how much time to allow ourselves to be able to arrive about 20 minutes prior to show time?

I'm interested in hearing more about your MTD experience as well, since we're planning on doing it. I've done MTD before and have never been disappointed. Never been on the Oasis, but from what I've read for most people, they love it. Some people even say they always get the same table and servers. Is it possible because you spent three of the nights in specialty restaurants or maybe you didn't eat at the same time every night that you were always moved around to different tables?

Our MTD reservations were at 6:45 on nights Two, Three, Five, and six. There's four of us. We always sat at a table for four. Dinner probably took about 2 hours. The servers did their best but they were so busy taking care of so many tables. One of the nights I let the server know that we had a show and he got our desserts out fast.

Park Cafe has lots of great breakfast offerings. Things I remember are a bagel bar, Oatmeal, Hot egg sandwiches, egg burritos, pastries, cereal boxes, fruit cups, yougurt parfaits, and muffins.

We did Capt Bob speed boat tour in St Maarten. It was a lot of fun. We got poured rain on the first part of the day but we still had a great time. I've done a lot of excursions and even with the bad weather it's one of my favorites.

We're on the 6/15 sailing and have booked Captain Bob's. Did you do the "almost full day" or half-day? How was the food? My DD is PICKY and I'm wondering if I should bring some packaged snacks along. Can you please tell me a little about your island stop? I can't swim well and am wondering how I'll get to the beach. Thanks!

Our tour was 9:30 to 4:00. Im very picky and I loved our lunch. I had the fish and my husband had the ribs. They were both very good. I don't swim. My husband snorkeled at all stops but I just stayed in the boat and took pictures. I did get very wet getting out of the boat to go to lunch. I didn't have to swim but the water was up to my chest. Capt Bob will try to get as close to the beach as he can. He did get the boat close to the beach after lunch so I didn't get to wet. I did have to time it right. I climbed in as the boat got pushed up to shore. I had to be fast. When my daughter got out of the boat there was a drop off in the sand so she got drenched. She just laughed. It was a rainy day or else we all would have looked forward to getting wet.
