Have you ever booked during Carnival's Upgrade Special

I have a question to ask, have you ever booked during one of Carnival's many upgrade specials and still receive an upgrade before sailing ?

Example: Booked an ocean view cabin and got the 2 cat. upgrade and then been upgraded to a balcony cabin ?

Just curious !:)

But would love to know the results...

thanks:)

Never booked during the "sale" as it is not really a sale. Carnival typically raises the prices immediately before the "special" so you actually end up paying the same or more than if you had booked a day or two earlier.

I just received an exclusive offer of a 2 category upgrade. I wonder how exclusive it is. This after the 365 days of one day sales.

I received four emails this morning with the same offer..

It says its good through April 12th, 2006...

These coupons have actually worked for me when I sailed on the Victory.

I called in and got a great deal on a seven day cruise and I mentioned the offer and promo code and was upgraded from inside Rivera deck to a window cabin (I cant remember what deck)

I would caution against booking any cabin, at any time, by anything method, hoping for an upgrade. There is just no way to predict if it will happen.

Oh no

I am booking based on price and itinerary !

I was jsut curious as to why so many upgrade offers,

And wondering if this type of upgrading happens.

My next cruise will be cabin # choosen and not a guarantee booking..

Once I've had the balcony I don't think I could go back !

Speaking from experience, it depends on how you use it.

When I booked my small group cruise last year, not only did we get the group rate, but also the category upgrades. So we paid the group rate for a 4A and got upgraded to 4F Lido deck cabins on the Destiny (it wasn't just the two category up sale going on now). So we got a great deal.

To answer your question Mom, no, we didn't get upgraded any further. :(

I have to disagree with this, at least in my particular case. I have been watching a sailing on the Elation for this fall that is at rock-bottom prices. When they had the 2-day sale, not only did the rates stay the same, they actually went down in a couple of categories. During the sale, it was cheaper to book an inside guarantee than it was to book a 1A.

My friend did this yesterday.

She was originally booked for a 4a guarentee. Then this sale happened. She was able to cancel and rebook getting upgraded to a 4c but............she had to pick a room. There will be no chance for a further upgrade. If you do the 2 cat upgrade you can not pick a guarentee. Fortunatly she liked the location she choose and is happy with the 4c.

We booked our trip through one of the 2 category upgrade periods. We ooked a cabin for ourselves and one for my parents. Our TA put a hold on the rooms a day or two in advance to guarantee those prices. On the day of the sales, she checked it and we were able to upgrade with the original price, since it was still considered a "new" booking. We had inside cabins low in the ship and they were only upgraded to better insides, which was no problem for us...we actually like the insides. This was all done last fall. About two weeks ago, my mom heard an ad on the radio for special senior citizen discounts on Carnival and she called the TA to see if they would apply. Originally, she was told no. A few minutes later, the TA called her back and told her that if they were willing to move down one deck to deck 5, they would be upgraded to a balcony for free. So, they paid for the cheapest interior room and ended up with a balcony. I think that if you have a reallygood TA, they will accomplish good things!!! LOL

I have never noticed a price increase right before the one-day sales. Those sales just upgrade you two categories within a basic type (i.e. inside to inside). So, you are really only saving about $20 - $40 pp to move up a copule of decks for the same room.

If your TA doesn't already know to check for Resident's specials, be sure to ask them to check. For our upcoming September cruise, the Maryland Resident's Special saved us about $200pp vs. the one-day-sale price. Why our particular sailing showed up as a MD resident's special, I don't know. However, we now have more than $400 to spend elsewhere (drinks, casino, excursions, etc.).
