Can I Get Smaller Denomination Currency on Queen Elizabeth?

BORDER REIVER

Recommended Posts

We're off to Norway shortly and took advantage of getting commission free currency through my bank. I picked it up today and it consists of only large denomination bank notes. There's no way I could hand over a 500Nkr note to pay for a cup of coffee or ice cream. Does anyone know if it's possible to exchange these for smaller denomination notes on board ship or would I be better going back to my bank?

I think there are three potential ways to resolve the problem.

1. Go back to your bank and ask if they can give you anything smaller.

2. Wait till you are on board and see what the Purser's Desk can do to help. There are also cash machines on board but I'm not at all sure whether they will change notes for smaller denominations. From memory they are just regular cash machines that will give you cash against your credit card (at a totally awful rate of exchange!)

3. Wait till you are in Norway and find a local bank that will change your notes.

Of the three options, my personal choice would be #1 as you won't have the lingering worry about wondering whether you will be successful.

Thanks for letting me know the options - I think I'll go back to my bank, there's still plenty of time.

Hi,

I totally sympathise with you, because this has happened to me in the past ("large" notes that no-one would change, once it was almost like having no money, what I had been given was so useless!) I always give the bank a list of the denominations & amounts I require, which, when visiting the U.S. always includes loads of $1 and $5 bills.

Have a great time.
