On the Spirit you used money and some of them came out in paper credits (to cash in or use on another machine) and others paid you in coins which they also took -- for example if you wanted to play a nickle machine you could put in a $20 bill and then if you lost $7 and cashed out you would get $13 in nickles back!

On the ones that pay in paper credit you would put in your $20 bill and after losing $7 you would get a paper credit for $13. Now that machine and others take the credit (but not the ones that give back coins) and so you just insert that into the slot.

You can cash in both credits and change at the cashiers.

Is that clear???? HTH if I was able to explain it ok

For the table games, you can also charge your chips to your onboard account at the cashier's cage. As of last year, NCL still allowed you to charge up to US$1,000 a day without any fee. I'm not aware of any change in that policy, and I hope that it's still in effect when we cruise in November.:)
