Cassis: Getting there from Marseille

We will be in port from 10AM until 7PM and would like to go to Cassis to enjoy the village and also cruise the Calanques. What is the best way to get there from Marseille? I see that there is a 25 minute train ride but that the station in Cassis is two miles from town. A regional bus also goes there in 50 minutes and stops a 5 minute walk from the port. Have any of you done this before? What do you recommend? Any recommendations about visiting the Calanques or Cassis? Thanks for your help.
