Megamind Posted June 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2005 For someone that loves to Cruise, what an ideal job. It doesn't pay that much, but, what great perks. 2 free cruises a year, discounts on any of the ships under the Carnival umbrella, eating lunch aboard ship. Wow. I have almost finished my training and will do a lot of embarkation work seeing that you get aboard as quick and easy as we can make it. Suggestions- Everyone sailing should have or get a Passport. That will be the only ID you will need. Please have all your paperwork filled out before you get to the counter. Just because you filled out the fun pass does not mean you have done everything. Fill out the information in your doc's even if we don't need them. Especially the page about sail and sign. Keep all the people in your group together. If you have questions, I will do what I can to answer them. Art Carnival Embarkation Specialist (at least that is what my badge says.)
lilsonicfan Posted June 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2005 I have a question !!! A recent Canadian cruiser on the Glory said that Carnival is no longer holding Canadian passports for the duration of the cruise. Can you tell us what's the new policy on this, if there is one? (Or what teh current policy is?)

SxyEbnyFem Posted June 20, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 20, 2005 Do you work behind the counter? When we cruised in Jan. on the Conquest out of NOLA, I asked the lady behind the counter who checked us in if they got any perks & she said, "I wish!" So, I was just wondering. Anyhow, congrats on your job & I hope it works out well for ya!! :D Happy sailing, T.

MyImagination Posted June 20, 2005 #12 Share Posted June 20, 2005 Congrats Art! Im not sure of Carnival policy, but many cruiselines dont allow their workers to come on the cruise message boards and answer questions. Many do so covertly, without letting people know their identity. I know there was an issue recently with a Carnival employee giving out sensitive information on this board. I just would hate for you to get in any trouble. I hope all the passengers that come your way are patient and prepared :)
Margienj Posted June 20, 2005 #13 Share Posted June 20, 2005 Art, you are fulfilling a dream I had after my first cruise in 1978. How many years later and I am still paying to sail....oh well! Maybe you could pass this suggestion on to your trainers for embarkation. We all are given the opportunity to do the Fun Pass on line. Things would go alot quicker and smoother if they also included the sail and sign information on the site as well. For instance, I am sailing with my dh and two dd's. We are all in one cabin. We will all be using the same credit card for our sail and sign accounts. So much time would be saved if we could give that information while doing the fun pass online. Just a thought. See if your higher ups think that is feasible. Enjoy the job and all the perks. If you need a family to adopt, we're willing to be that family. We'll be sailing on the Triumph in March out of Miami. Maybe we'll see you.

Megamind Posted June 20, 2005 Author #19 Share Posted June 20, 2005 An interesting point was brought up above. What information I can and cannot give out. Yes, there are some confidential things that I can not release, but, I am letting you know what I do to be of help to cruisers which is OK. So far, the questions have been OK to answer. ThanksJoann, this same topic came up briefly awhile ago. I think the answer was yes, you can call and get extra cards sent, possibly with your docs. I'll see if I can find the thread. edit: Correction:the thread was just about Carnival no longer accepting copies. Joann I think I'd atleast call and ask. Would definitely save you time at embarkation.
IBRelaxin2 Posted June 21, 2005 #24 Share Posted June 21, 2005 Art, where did you find this position? I live near PC as well and would love to work there just wondering where you saw it listed and if there is a way to apply online. I work already but overnights and would love something PT w/ perks. What days/times do embarkation specialist work?
Mark Posted June 21, 2005 #25 Share Posted June 21, 2005 Art, Congratulations on your new job and all the best. Just one word of advice, please be prepared to sweat a lot while you work in that Miami building that Carnival uses as a terminal. Your fellow employees told me that the company does not address the lack of air conditioning and they sweat everyday! You won't have to go to the gym with the sweating you will do in that building!
