Cheers and our costs and comparison!

Just back from the Pride cruise to Bahamas. Cheers program was purchased by myself and wife and we consumed over 160 drinks....I think 164. Our bar tab would have been around $1600 without Cheers. We maximized the cost of every drink by always using premium liquor or shots of Patron ($9.95) or the expensive glasses of wine ($9.50).

Sucked getting cut off a few times after 15 drinks....couldn't even buy. Because those couple of days we started off drinking bloody marys or mimosas. Buy the time midnight-1am rolled around at the casino or club, then we got cut off and weren't even close to drunk.

That's why I'm happy I still brought some bottles of liquor along so we could continue to drink. Didn't "cheat" or "abuse" any system since Carnival wouldn't even SELL ME DRINKS after my 15. They could have made more money if they at least let me pay after the Cheers 15.

But not what you meant.;)

Seriously? Did you even read the post I responded to?

Sorry to disillusion you but that is exactly what I meant.

Someone hinted that they drank 24+ drinks each per day and

did not get drunk. I responded that the quantity was 'they'

not per person. Get it?

Actually the poster you quoted used the word "they". And in this case "they" meant the OP and his wife.:)

In other words the poster did not use he or she which would have suggested that the poster thought that all 24+ drinks were consumed by one person.

Is no one else impressed they were able to drink 28.43 alcoholic beverages per day and not once be drunk?

I would be more impressed or alarmed  if he or his wife drank this much alcohol per day by themselves and we're not drunk even once.

To which I simply responded that the quantity quoted was not a 'per person' count. Which is what I said, what I meant and I think my English was quite proper. Now I think I need a drink!

But I clearly wrote "they" in my original post you quoted, so obviously I didn't mean he or she drank that much individually.

I am just saying, assuming most of the drinking is done in the evening, and the fact that they look to be slender people, that is a good amount of alcohol to never have been drunk on the ship. So either they were and didn't know it, or they have a great tolerance.

I suppose if spread out over the entire day, from brunch on it wouldn't be that hard to do.

Even the OP was alarmed by the sheer numbers of alcohol consumed especially by himself.

This is quite evident by reading his original post. And ya, you did clearly say "they" which I tried my best to convey.

We just got off the Conquest yesterday and were very glad we purchased the Cheers program. It did go up to $49.95/day plus the 15% tax and gratuity, which put us at $804 for the week. We definitely saved on this program!

I was on the lido deck by 8:00 AM daily and would have a morning mimosa by 9:00 AM. I would then start drinking my fruity, tropical drinks by around 11:00 and have 3-4 by 3:00 PM. So, that's about 5 drinks on average. I then would have a glass or two of wine or a glass or two of The Cruiser before dinner, and another glass or two with dinner. That means by the time we went to the casino and comedy shows, I'd already had around 7-8 drinks. I was nowhere near drunk, especially considering it was over a 12 hour period. After dinner we also had drinks. I hit 15 twice and not once would I have considered myself drunk. Tipsy? Yes. Having a good time with friends? Yes.

We did however see a drunk girl in the casino yelling at people to buy a performer's cd and then she came to the nightclub, fell off a stool, broke a glass, and nobody cut her off. And she didn't have the cheers program. The drinking policy should be inforced all around, not just to the people who are labeled as drinking too much because they hit 15 drinks.

Yep, she should have been cut off and tucked in.

The Cheers price is going up on some 7 nighters but not all yet, according to John Heald. Now you can't use them at the private island any longer either. Seems to me like people cheating the system and using others cards when they reach their limits has increased the price for others.

Instead of assuming the worst, is it at all possible that Carnival sees the Cheers program has been profitable, and decided to try and make more money off of it?

Cut off?? I'm still trying to decide if we should do it or not. We're thinking that if dh gets the drinks on us card in the casino, then even if they cut us off after the 15, we probably wouldn't HIT the 15, since his drinks in the casino would be free. Does that make sense?

Did you try to buy drinks after 15?

One night I got pretty hammered, and no one cut me off, even though they certainly should have!

What would a Couple of Bon Voyage bottles cost you?

Meanwhile, I'll stick with my $20 smuggled bottle of Bacardi.

Thats what my first thoughts were as well

7 liter bottles of liquor of choice and a soda sticker about $500 depending on brands

Dont care how much you like to drink 7 bottles for the week is hard to consume :)

This is my biggest issue with the cheers program. If you hit 15 drinks you are cut off. So, if you hit the limit at 10pm, you are done for the night. We should be able to purchase drinks after 15 as long as you are not real drunk. If you are not on the program, you can have unlimited amount. It would save me money to do the program, even with the price increase, but I would not be happy to be cut off with alot of the night still left.

Some may think 15 drinks a day one needs to be in rehab

Its really not that much though ,a bloody mary or two at breakfast a 6 pack of beer during the afternoon at the pool, one or two before dinner ,a couple of glasses of wine during dinner and a couple at the piano bar .Your done by 9pm lol,Vacations over now you need to go to sleep :)

15 drinks in one day has been done by many folks around here at one time in their lives but 105 drinks in a week is the shocking number to me at least.

As long as no one is causing major issues and is able to be a parent to their minor children it's really ultimately between them, their brain, their liver, and their waistline.:D

I posted my stats when I got off the Freedom in early March and they are not unlike the OP. It was an 8 nt cruise, I bought it on the first day it cost $395.14 for the program. Over the 8 days, I consumed 90 drinks (54 were Grey Goose & Cranberry, so little glasses) which when I added my receipts and added gratuity, it would have cost me $726...I saved over $330 with Cheers and will be buying it again in October when DH & I cruise. Yes, we could buy from Bon Voyage but I like the fun, fruity drinks sometimes and like to have a variety so Cheers will work for us.

There is no right or wrong, it's a personal choice and won't work for everyone.

Nobody is admitting that it's going up because of cheating and it's not going up on every ship, but I've seen many people on the ship cheating on both the Cheers Program and the Bottomless Bubbles.

It's not really all that hard. Depending on what you are drinking and your metabolism and in my case less absorbtion capability, I never had more than a buzz. And I watched all my drinks being made and know that they were heavy pours.

I start with Bloody Mary's around 10am and probably have a drink every hour or so, including a couple of glasses of wine with dinner.

Exactly starting at 10:30 for us with Bloody Mary's then about a drink an hour until 1 am like you said couple glasses of wine at dinner. pretty easy to keep an even keel all day and night.

Just to clarify, drinks in the steak house are charged to one card that booked the meal. does that mean some drinks will charged to your on board account and only the person that booked the meal will have them included in the cheers package or all the drinks purchased will be charged to one card.

Is bottled water, vitamin water included in package or do you have to pay for those drinks?

Are liquor coffee's served in the dining room include?

When did the program stop availability on the private islands? I hadn't heard that yet.
