Street cars....

I think it depends on the size and amount of your luggage. There is no luggage storage, you will have to pull it up the stairs to get in (door is somewhat narrow), the route is very limited (doesn't go "into" the French Quarter but instead borders it), and they don't stop very long to let passengers load. They also do not have a stop directly in front of the port. You will still have to walk some. You can use Google images to see what they look like inside.

The riverfront street car does not go all the way to the port, and doesn't really have space for luggage.

smurfm69 - Is the John Churchill Chase stop not near the port? We're doing a B2B and thought we'd use the Riverfront street car to get to the French Quarter on our turnaround day. I tried looking at Google Maps but really can't tell if there's a way to walk from the Port entrance/exit to the stop.

Thanks

You can walk to the last stop from the port, but it is down the busy "Port Of New Orleans" road. It's not a long walk and if you dont have any luggage it should be pretty easy to avoid traffic.

You can also walk through the riverwalk mall toward canal street pretty easily. Just climb the stairs on the end of the riverwalk building near the port (used to be the fountain stairway), and enter the food court, follow the building, you'll have a couple of escalators to navigate, but once you get through the mall you'll be in the plaza area. Head toward the ferry dock and walk through the little wheelchair ramp and you'll be right near the Aquarium at the foot of Canal Street.

Hey Sharon, the last few times we rode the riverfront streetcar, it didn't take passengers down to that station. It stopped at the Julia St. station. You can take it in the other direction all the way to the French Quarter. It's $1.25 per person each way or you can buy a pass for $3 per person for unlimited riding all day.

Exactly what I needed to know, thanks so much for the info and link. We're going to search out some yummy lunch and replenish our wine allowance :) so will likely use it for the way back too.
