donna@donnaanderson.com Posted June 24, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2005 What are the best fruits to buy in Hawaii?
Beryl Posted June 24, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2005 My favourites are papaya, pineapple, guava and passionfruit! Do try the fruit juice known as POG!
Suebee Posted June 24, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2005 I have seen companies that offer Pineapple and Papaya shipping from Hawaii to the mainland, if that is what you mean. Anything that leaves has to go through inspection to ensure the integrity of the enviornment here....(i.e. no parasites, bugs etc). A place like Dole will pre-inspect and wrap for you to carry on the plane. But as for being here and eating them....I visit my local Mango tree these days. But I cant get enough of the pineapple too. Aloun Farms on the Ewa side is producing the Thai watermelons right now.
Hawaiian Eye Posted June 24, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2005 I think this year is also good for Lychee. Yummmmmmm!
spleen93 Posted June 24, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2005 Don't forget that some fruits are seasonal. Mango and lychee are summer. Papaya and pineapple are year round. Not sure about guava and passionfruit - I think they're year round but don't hold me to it. :) Spleen
Hawaiian Eye Posted June 24, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2005 Fresh mango can't be beat. Like a cousin of a peach, flavor wise. Many people are allergic to the skin of the fruit.
Suebee Posted June 24, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2005 Like My daughter....she gets covered in a rash if she goes to collect them. Lucky her, I have to prepare them for her. Mmmmmm....mango salad, mango daqueries, mango salsa, etc.
