wannago35 Posted July 10, 2013 #103 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Excellent review, thanks so much for sharing! We cruise the Dream in October for our 10 yr anniversary and can not wait! 94 days to go! I have what may sound like a strange question ... in one picture your wife was holding what looked like what of those refillable coffee containers you can use in the car - did she bring that on board or buy it on board? Did the specialty coffee spot fill up her container? I too like a good cup of coffee in the a.m. and am considering bringing my own container or maybe buying a souvenir container on board. Thanks and again, great job with your review and thanks for posting the fun times. However you did it this is the first time I've actually been able to read it clearly. :)
wannago35 Posted July 10, 2013 #104 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Also, it sounds like you had a spa cabin? We have a cove balcony but I'd really like to pay for a weekly spa pass. Did you use any other part of the spa? Was it worth it? Thanks again!

Writing the review helps me relive the cruise and makes the time pass faster until our next one! Elaine brought her own travel mug. If you are bringing it in your carry on things or carrying it with you, you will have to pour out any contents when going through security. She had coffee she was still working on and they made her pour it out. At the coffee bar, they would fill up her mug and only charge for one cup. I don't remember seeing a souvenir one in the gift shop, but I wasn't looking for one. I'm not as much of a coffee snob as she is. I could drink the coffee from the Lido deck. It wasn't great, but it was better than last year. The coffee in the restaurant was really good! Billy
billys5764 Posted July 11, 2013 Author #106 Share Posted July 11, 2013 Also, it sounds like you had a spa cabin? We have a cove balcony but I'd really like to pay for a weekly spa pass. Did you use any other part of the spa? Was it worth it? Thanks again! We did not have a spa cabin. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9, 9401 (aft). I only used the "free" part of the spa -- just the locker room and the steam room in the locker room. I didn't need all the extra saunas and steam rooms. I just basically steamed for a few minutes and then showered in the very large showers to get ready for the evening. The showers are very nice and roomy. I hate how the shower curtain in the cabin ends up sticking to your body while trying to shower in the tiny bathroom. Plus, the steam really builds up on the mirror and then when you open the bathroom door, the cabin gets steamy.

billys5764 Posted July 11, 2013 Author #109 Share Posted July 11, 2013 So, I had to pay Photobucket $2.99 a month to keep my pics on the thread. My bandwidth had been exceeded. So now I have unlimited bandwidth. Has anyone else had to do this?

Hope you enjoyed your margarita night with your friends :) I'm not necessarily a coffee snob either, I just like it hot and fresh! Kay, we loved our margarita night. I made margarita shrimp tacos. YUM! We had 3 different kinds of margaritas, cherry, strawberry, and fresh fruit. The fresh fruit was the best. It had fresh squeezed lemons, limes, and oranges along with tequila and triple sec. The strawberry margarita pie was good too. Of course, we used our pretty shot glasses we got on the Dream!

We live in Aberdeen, 5 minutes from Pinehurst. Golf anyone? If there is no Alchemy I'm not happy at all. :( We were on the Glory and I thought I remembered one of the mixologists saying she was going to the Dream to train someone. I took that as they were getting an Alchemy....guess not.

I got most of my drinks at the bar behind the casino, or by the aft pool.
tandemcruzr Posted July 17, 2013 #117 Share Posted July 17, 2013 On the Lido Deck there was the Grill (burgers, etc), Tandoor (Indian), Pasta Bar, Mongolian Wok, Deli, Burrito Bar, plus the usual buffet. Our group tried the Grill, Tandoor, Mongolian Wok, and Deli. Everyone said what they had was good. There is also the Pasta Bar on deck 11 above the buffet. Hard to find sometimes. It's not a bar kinda bar - no alcohol, but yummy pasta and sauces.

DaDivaMom Posted July 17, 2013 #119 Share Posted July 17, 2013 We had a spa cabin on this sailing and LOVED it. We enjoyed the theo pool, the two extra steam rooms with aromatherapy and the dry sauna rooms with heated loungers. There is also a "quite" room with water, tea, coffee and and an amazing view that is great to go to get away and relax, read, whatever. We used these services almost everyday. Often the only people in these areas. There are also two private showers in this area with surround water and lights. No alchemy bar that I saw but the "martini" bar area next to the tasting bar had bartenders that I think were being trained to open the alchemy bar when it's ready. They were suggesting very interesting combos and really wanted to try their skills.

Future_Mrs_Wetzel Posted July 17, 2013 #121 Share Posted July 17, 2013 DAY 1!!!!!!!!!! Finally, it has arrived. I was up by 6:30 and wandered down to the free breakfast. They had eggs, sausage, make-your-own waffles, cereal, etc. Not bad, not great, but free! It was finally time to leave to board the shuttle! Now, Carnival had sent this email saying not to arrive at the port until 1:30. Yea, right! We booked the 10:30 shuttle. Because our room was not close to the shuttle pick up point, we loaded all 98 bags back into the car and I drove to the pick up point and unloaded all 142 bags there and drove the car back to the parking area. We are excited! The hotel had booked us on Road Runner Shuttle. 10:30 came and went, 10:45 came and went, 11:00 came and went. Finally they got there, loaded us up and we were on our way. We had a contest to see who would see the whale tail first. DS won. He's younger and has better eyes! The Dream in port. We loaded our 218 bags and watched as the porters loaded them on the wagons. We got to security around 11:25 and were on the ship at 11:45. It would have been sooner if we didn't have to stop to get our picture made so many times. Lines were non-existant. I guess everyone paid attention to the "don't arrive before 1:30" email. Our friends from NC had faster to the fun but we actually got on the ship 2 people ahead of them. After we got on we all took our carry ons to the room with FTTF. We went to the bar to pay for the unlimited soft drinks for DS. After that we headed up to the Lido deck for lunch. It was not too crowded but, of course, all the window tables were taken. No big deal. We ate lunch and then started exploring the ship. The decor is typical Carnival glitzy. We've been on Carnival before and knew it was not going to look like the Waldorf-Astoria. We found where all the necessary things were -- casino, bars, restaurants, coffee bar, Club O2, etc. At 1:30 we went to our friend's room to collect our carryons. We went to our room, 9401 (balcony), and all 638 bags were there waiting for us. We went in and unpacked everything. Fortunately, there is room under the bed for empty luggage. 3:30 was muster time. Our meeting place was in Club O2. There was lots of room there with chairs. They explained the process and did the typical "this is how you put on a life vest" thing and explained what to do in case of hitting an iceberg. After this we hit the deck to enjoy our sail away! One thing I always notice about cruise pictures......the HUGE smiles! Love your pictures. Can't wait till November to get more smiling pictures of my hubby and myself. :)
5Hawkeyes Posted July 17, 2013 #122 Share Posted July 17, 2013 Great review, thanks for sharing!!! My question is about Mr. Sanchos. Do you know or remember how many ships were in port that day with the Dream? I'm trying to figure out what the breaking point for how crowded it can get. Your pictures look like it was a very calm day that day. Thanks for the great review!!!
