Sablerose Posted June 27, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2005 Is this still something you can do, or do you recommend getting something before we even leave? Thank you!
Cotton Posted June 27, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2005 Yes, you can get seasick pills at the purser's desk. However, why not just take your own? And - start taking them prior to boarding for the best results. I take one Bonine a coupla hours before boarding and one every evening of the cruise. beaming90 Posted June 27, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2005 On our Feb Fantasy cruise it was very very rough the first night and we were told they were all out of sea sick meds that first night, we were glad we had our own. :o
dromMOM Posted June 27, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2005 The pursers desk does not have the brand Bonine.. and thats our family favorite. We took it religiously on our Valor cruise starting the evening before we boarded. We never had a problem and there were tablemates who had to excuse themselves during dinner and miss dessert! OH MY! We were in the aft dining room "Washington" for dinner and when dinner coincided with leaving a port.. the Ship would "WAG ITS TAIL" and some folk were a bit bothered by this.. Sablerose Posted June 27, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted June 27, 2005 Is Bonine a brand name? Do I need a doctor's prescription? Where do I get it? Patches or pills? So many questions!
dromMOM Posted June 27, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2005 Is Bonine a brand name? Do I need a doctor's prescription? Where do I get it? Patches or pills? So many questions! Go to your drug store.. it is over the counter med.. no prescription necessary. As far as patches vs. pills.. there are those that prefer one over the other. I dont want to wear a patch. My son didn't like that the patch showed..
FamilyMiracle Posted June 27, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 27, 2005 I k now Bonine is Over the counter..... is there anything wrong with antivert? It is by prescription. They both seem to have the same active ingredients.
debzkidz Posted June 27, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 27, 2005 Dramamine? Is it the same as Bonine? When I've taken Dramamine it's always made me so sleepy I didn't know if I was sick or not, I just slept through it. I don't want to do that on this trip. I saw wrist bands somewhere recently, and I wondered about them. They looked like somekind of stretchy gray terrycloth. YUK! They sure could mess up the look of an outfit.
dromMOM Posted June 27, 2005 #9 Share Posted June 27, 2005 Since my degree was in education I think it would be safe to say to ask your pharmacist!
milee Posted June 30, 2005 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2005 Antivert and Dramamine less drowsy formula both have meclizine 25mg as active ingredient. The antivert makes me very sleepy but the Dramamine isnt AS bad. Remember it says LESS drowsy. I'm not sure about the Bonine (I don't have it in front of me, the others I do) but I have taken it but I prefer Dramamine. I have also used the patches which work wonderfully just really drag me down the first day its used. I use one or the other on a regular basis (every few weeks) for flying. I have suffered terrible motion sickness my entire life so I know my motion sickness meds! What works best for me is the patch or regular Dramamine. I would not recommend any generic OTC brands. I tried a generic last month and was the first time ever flying while taking something that I felt very sick. Believe me when I say I use them lots, in the last 2 years I have flown roughly 50 or so times and I always take something. I go on my first cruise in Sept and I am kinda worried about it, just praying for calm seas. :) I do think that anyone that only suffers occasionally that any of them will work about the same. Just stay away from the generic. Hope I helped some. Oh another thing to think about is they all say do not drink alcohol though I have several times had a few.
