Port Everglades to Pelican Beach Resort

I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice please.

 

We are booked into the Pelican Beach Resort for a post cruise 4 night stay next March.

We have never visited the area before and after some great advice from TrentS and Bequia here on the boards we now realise that we really do need a rental car to get around..

 

My question now is....when we get off the ship will the surrounding area be extremely busy, are there taxi cab companies etc all there and would we have huge crowds all going to the Car rental companies all at the same time.

How do we get from the ship to the Rental companies ?

 

I really dont want to come off the ship and have to fight my way through crowds to get a cab or to get to the car hire desk..

 

Would we be best to pre-book a cab or similar (6 adults + luggage) to take us to the Hotel and then 2 of us go rent a car nearer the hotel or would we be best to go straight to the car hire desk.

 

I apologise if I sound like I dont have a clue lol but actually I dont.

 

Hope someone can offer me some advice/opinions on the best way to go about this. TIA
