Oppgaard Posted May 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I wanted to ask if it would be acceptable to wear a black tux with a dressy black mock turtle neck and then I have a custom made scarf to wear around the lapels to match the cumberbun. dhcoaster Posted May 13, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Seen the mock turtle neck tux (not black) and it looks good. IMHO I would not go with the scarf. Also may want to look into non black mock turtle neck. Black on black may be to much black. Something like an off white or dark grey. And if all else fails, take along a tux dress shirt and bow tie. teedee Posted May 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2004 On my last cruise I saw a man with a black tux and a charcoal mock turtleneck on and it looked really, really good (didn't hurt that it was a extremely good looking man ) It was the first time I'd ever seen that, but like I said he looked good! nealberk Posted May 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Actually it sounds quite nice. It might be a bit unusual but no more so than kilts or standard tuxes. I have seen less standard things at the Oscars and Emmys so it sounds good to me. Do you feel comfortable and "dressy" in it? If so, I would say it definitely qualifies. Oppgaard Posted May 13, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted May 13, 2004 I wore it on the last cruise and got a lot of comments on how nice it looked. The scarf around the neck and hanging down the front on both sides made it look even dressier. Several people did mistake me for a priest who was ready for formal night which I got a big kick out of. This cruise, I had several different scarves made to change the look and complement the color of the mock turtleneck. Yes, I do feel dressed up this way but I am also very comfortable not having to wear a tie which I absolutely hate. I have a large neck and no matter what size shirt I wear, it seems that I am always being choked. I knew this would be OK for RCI but was hoping it would be formal enough for Celebrity which now I am convinced it will be. DesertCruiser
