travlnblueberries Posted August 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2013 Okay folks, I don't dive, but DH does. Can anyone tell me if any of these locations are even remotely good for diving? I'm diving and geographically challenged, so I'm asking you. scubadiver888 Posted September 28, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2013 First, it depends how skilled a diver your DH is. Is he used to doing shore excursions in the Caribbean? Or does he like to go drift diving in the St. Lawrence River? That said, Portofino is just east of Genoa and there is a lot of diving in Portofino. I'm sure you can find some dive shops in Genoa but you'll probably need to speak Italian. Actually for all the places you mentioned, they are not dive destinations. So the dive shops will probably cater to locals and might be best if you speak the native language or a neighbouring language (French, Spanish or Italian). Actually, if you go to http://www.padi.com/scuba/locate-a-padi-dive-shop/default.aspx and enter the name of the ports, you'll see how many PADI dive shops are there. If there are no dive shops, not a good dive port. If there are 1 or 2, questionable. If there are 3 or more, there is probably enough diving to support multiple agencies being there. Essentially, if there is enough demand, there will be a few PADI dive shops there. There will probably be other shops as well.
