IMKTDQT810 Posted August 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Hello Everyone, I was looking at different ship deck plans and on some of them the MDR tables look like they hold 6-8 but they are not round, they are rectangle. We would be a party of 3. If we sat at a table of 6 or 8 do they sit one family on one side and another family on the opposite side, or do they mix it up with two on one side and one on the other? Just wondering how other folks have been seated. Thanks!!
Pine Bluff Posted August 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2013 They don't assign seats. How you sit at that table is entirely up to you.
GradUT Posted August 20, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2013 You seat yourself in the MDR. Some groups are sticklers for having the same seats every night, but on our last cruise, we rotated around the table so that each family/group could have the "better" seats at one time or another or so we could sit next to different people each night. We really enjoyed the folks at our table!
kellylw Posted August 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2013 We have never been seated with anyone but the other people we have traveled with. We've had 4 person tables for 3 and 8 and ten for when we had a huge group. My understanding is if you er seated with others there is no assigned seat, everyone just pics a seat. okgirl Posted August 20, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2013 On the first night in traditional dining you will be escorted to your table and typically they will seat 2 or 3 people on the same side of an 8 top. If it's 4 people they will if possible seat 2 on each side opposite each other. There really are no hard rules for this. On subsequent evenings you just go to your table and can sit where ever you choose. If you have nice table mates and your table is against a window everyone will get a chance to be seated by the window. But many times in the evening the window shades are drawn so there is no view. IMKTDQT810 Posted August 20, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Thank you!!! This is helpful to know. When DH and I went on our honeymoon cruise (3 yrs ago) everyone ALWAYS sat in their same seats. I didn't remember if it was that way because we were escorted to "our seats" or if that was just the way it ended up each night. I like to sit with other folks...it's fun getting to know others who you wouldn't normally have met.
