Post cruise-Galveston or Houston NYE?

Hi! We are cruising right after Christmas. We don't know much about the port. What would you suggest for post cruise stay at this time of year. We are a couple (mid 40s) looking for good restaurants, bars, and some things to do. I'm not sure what Galveston is like in Dec. The beach areas on the east coast pretty much close down during the winter months. What can I expect? Thanks!

Galveston has lots of things to do within close proximity.

Moody Gardens will have the Festival of Lights through the first of the year. Laser, Lights and Magic will be at Saengerfest Park on the Strand.

Jerry Jeff Walker will be at the 1894 Grand Opera House December 28th.

There are great restaurants, from white table cloth to very casual.

Rudy & Paco's, Saltwater Grill, Sky Bar, Gumbo Bar, Shearn's at Moody Gardens, Mosquito Café, Sunflower Bakery, Original Mexican Café, DeBella's, Olympia at Pier 21, etc.

Shopping on the Strand, Visiting historical places (Bishop's Palace and Tall Ship Elissa), the Lone Star Flight Museum, the Offshore Drilling rig, etc.

Everyplace will be quiet right after Christmas, but Galveston has a lot to offer.

Not every event is listed as it is early, but check out Galveston.com

Ditto everything Galveston Cruiser said! SO much fun stuff going on during the holidays, and the weather is usually still mild enough to enjoy being outside at that time, unlike the East coast. :D

There is a ton of stuff already on the calendar for that time -- check out the 2013 holiday events guide!
