People come on here and tell these stories it may be what they see from their own eyes but you and I would see it different. You have to think to some ppl one drink of a beer and your an alcoholic one person getting a little upset over a wrong drink order is a bar fight. If they get an order wrong at a food selection the food service was bad. If the warm chocolate melting cake was to runny one night that the worst selection of desert ever. These same ppl think that if they have to stand in line at a food service all the lines are wrapped around the ship every time they go to eat. (It's kinda like going to your favorite restaurant after church on Sunday the lines are long. Just wait 15 minutes and go in and walk straight thru. Etc. etc. etc. ........

You have nothing to worry about go on your cruise and have a good time.

We have traveled with another couple and she is a worrier the slightest little mishap and the whole trip is terrible. Just go with the attitude of I am going to have a good time let the small things roll off your back and forget about them if something worse happens take a deep breath re group and move on it will all work out.

Remember it's your vacation and only you can determine the outcome. No matter how bad it gets your attitude and mind set is what determines if YOU have a good time or not.

I would not say this is completely unfounded. I have been on two 3 day weekend cruises with Carnival and I will never do that again. Just one big drunk party. Begin the Flames!

Don't know why you think you'll be flamed. I'd say most agree that the short cruises can be full of 'partiers'.

If I went on 'one' of these (Never happen. Too short) and it was out of control with drunks/rowdy behavior, I'd have never booked a 2nd one.

OP - Relax. As others have said, the things you mentioned are not the norm.

Might you see a drunk. Yes.

Might you see some of the other things listed. Yes, but it is not the norm.

If you're going scared, you're going to find, ... something.

Enjoy your vacation. ;)

Hi:

We are taking our 1st cruise ever in a few weeks (Carnival Imagination to the Western Caribbean). This is our first real vacation of our entire life and I'm getting very worried reading this websight. Brawls, alcohol smuggling, people with warrants for their arrest, badly behaved adults, out of control children, diapers being changed in the restarant. This is supposed to be a trip of a lifetime We been saving for a long time for this trip. I'm getting ready to cry.

I find it hard to believe that frequent cruise passengers would post that they've never seen any of the things you've listed. They've never seen a badly behaved adult on a ship? They've never seen a passenger on a ship who brought undeclared alcohol on board? Really?

I've never seen a brawl (which I would consider to be a physical confrontation involving at least four active combatants). I'm sure I've seen pleny of alcohol "smuggling" (and the results thereof). I've seen plenty of misbehaving children. Do any incidents reach the threshold of "out of control"? I'd have to think about that. I've never seen a diaper being changed in the restaurant.

Have I seen these same things at a hotel, rental condo, or at the mall? Sure (except maybe the alcohol smuggling, which doesn't really apply).

When people assure you that "you'll have a great time" be very cautious. Those people don't know anything about you and have no idea whether you'll enjoy the cruise or not. Perhaps they are thinking that they, themselves would have a good time if it was them. Or maybe they are hopeful that you'll have a good time. I think it is delusional to honestly believe that you know whether or not a complete stranger will have a good time in a particular situation. It may be fair to say that you'll probably like it.

I agree that to a certain extent, you are in control of how the events of your trip affect you (i.e., in the same way you would be affected by flight delays, delayed baggage, or hotel rooms not being exactly what you expected when on a regular vacation). However, that only goes so far, and sometimes you'll see cruise/Carnival apologists "blaming the victims" for a negative experience.

OK, one at a time...

Brawls - I don't think I've seen a fight between two people, much less a "brawl..." that word usually means a large group of people fighting. To some complainers, a "brawl" would be two men confronting each other over cutting in line at the buffet!

Alcohol smuggling - people bring alcohol aboard in violation of the cruise contract, not trying to sneak it through customs. The poster is bragging about how he or she got away with something.

Warrants - these are people stupid enough to try to cruise without taking care of court matters, not new warrants because of an action aboard ship. What usually happens is that Customs and Border Patrol officers pick them up as the ship returns because their I.D. was flagged as CBP checked the manifest. I think I've seen it once in ten cruises.

Badly behaved adults and out-of-control children - gonna happen anywhere there's large crowds of people, and a cruise ship is a large crowd... Is it excessive on a ship? NO, no worse than anywhere else, possibly better.

Diapers changed in the restaurant. One-in-a-million happening. Why the poster didn't speak up, either to the MDR staff or the people themselves, I don't know. But it doesn't happen every day, or every cruise, or every month, or even once a year! There are unthinking pigs everywhere...

Don't cry, you'll have a blast! You're going to run into nay-sayers wherever you go. Don't let THEM spoil your good times.

Some people think that a badly behaved adult or child for that matter may mistake that for people actually laughing and having fun while on vacation :)

OMG those kids ran on deck all the way over to get ice cream and didn't eat it all. They must have drunk parents in the pool or dads doing the hairy chest contest :)

Theirs a cruise line for every taste .Its just a little more expensive than what some care to pay ;)

There seem to be a general rising tide of chair hog fights (we had that happen at Blue Lagoon, which is a cruise/resort excursion) and do not be surprised to see drunk people. We had been on the Triumph less than a half hour, had just opened up our rooms, and our next cabin door neighbor was being escorted with security on either side of her and was bombed out of her middle-aged to senior mind. This wasn't a spring breaker or a summer school's out cruise, it was in February. She was cut off for the day. Isolated incident? I'm sure. Did it ruin our trip? Absolutely not. Nothing could take away from Roatan, nothing!

However, saying that thousands of people on a closed environment for the better part of a week are going to be all roses is also a bit unrealistic. You shouldn't be terrified or crying, but you shouldn't be surprised either if you see people cutting you off for elevators, lines, or shopping extravanganzas<---don't go to those.

I never feel unsafe on a cruise ship, even on my least enjoyable one this year. If you have a valid complaint, you should alert security or guest services. Hopefully you will find really fun people (we always have!) and avoid the fruit loops.

Just don't be surprised if its not all roses and smiles. Not all cruises are the same, not all cruise SHIPS even in the same line are the same, not all cruises on the SAME SHIP are the same (I'm figuring that one out!) and experiences differ vastly.

My biggest let down came from the break down of CM professionalism (they were the ones fighting in front of me and other people I have talked to) and from the lack of courteous service from them. I actually don't have any issues to report from guests myself (except for the nasties on Blue Lagoon, and that technically wasn't a cruise ship or a Carnival... just anywhere you go that people take first and ask questions later.)

I did notice that the families on the Disney Dream were super friendly. We forgot our camera and a nice lady we met in line took all our photos for us and sent them to us after the cruise, which she didn't have to do. As a previous poster has mentioned, even nasty people cruise there and get in fights.

I hope you have a wonderful time.
