Hello StaceyM,

You mentioned in your review to buy masks for the "mardi gras night". What is this that you are referring to? Is there an actual party or event on the ship during the week where mardi gras masks/attire is worn? If so, do you remember which night and where in the ship this takes place?

I apologize if anyone has already asked this question or you mentioned it in further detail....I simply went back in to my email account where I had cut and pasted your comments! Again, any info would be appreciated. We're sailing the 17th and can't wait...hope the hurricanes are gone by then!

Thank you!

We sailed the week before Stacey and the MardiGras Party was on Tuesday night. You can't miss it. Details will be in your capers. The pre-deck party events will be organized by color (you will be assigned a color in your dining room). The hosts will bring you to various locations to participate in some events (don't ask for too many details.......it's fun to be surprised). At the end of the activities, you will be directed to the deck party for more fun. We had a blast. We didn't see anyone with masks, but some people had beads. If you want to stock up on masks, beads and feather boas, the shops on Decatur and the French Market have the best prices (masks are 3 for $10, feather boas are $5 and bead prices vary). The very same items on Bourbon Street will be at least double in price. Have fun!

What an interesting review as we were on the same cruise with you last week. I would rate the overall cruise exactly the same as you did. This was our fifth cruise on Carnival, though our first in four (?) years. The food just wasn't what we remembered, nor was the service up to what we felt had been "par" in the past. We also still had a good time and keep in my mind "a so-so day on a cruise beats a good day at work.....". But it was still a tad dissapointing. We had dinner at The Point on Tuesday and the food and service were outstanding but I can remember when this type of service and quality of food were standard in the dining rooms. I don't want to come across as a snob here, but I remember when the little things were still important. Pulling a chair out at dinner for the passengers, serving elders and women first, serving from the right side only. I know, these things certainly do not make or break a cruise but the "little things" can sometimes add up to not the best cruise ever. We have certainly had worse and definitely had better, but this one just kinda rated okay. I noticed some wear and tear on the ship but nothing that glaringly stood out. Chipped and peeling paint, rusted surfaces, windows not cleaned, multiple slot machines down in the casino at any given time. Carnival did indeed slip a bit on the shows with this ship. The first one, Formidable, was pretty good but the Point and Click was simply not engaging. You get the point. Nothing that I would allow to ruin a vacation, but is worth noting so that others on this board can be prepared. Can most of these cosmetic flaws be corrected at dry dock? Absolutely. And it can be amazing sometimes what a little time off can do for staff morale and overall service. So the outfitting is coming just in time for this grand ship. We also loved sailing out of New Orleans and cruising the Mississippi was incredibly interesting. We did like the relaxed disembarkation and the lines to debark went quite quickly. To future cruisers on Conquest, go with an open mind and remember only you can allow your vacation to be ruined. If you go with the flow you will have an enjoyable time.

P.S. As i'm typing this, I have the tv on next to me and this all sounds so incredibly trivial next to what London is dealing with on this day. These people have real problems and here I sit complaining about a so-so vacation. My thoughts and prayers go out to them and their families. May God have mercy on them.

Tarps,

Thanks for your input. I am glad to hear that I am not alone in how I felt about this cruise. For those of you that are getting ready to sail the Conquest, you will have an awesome time!!! I wish I were siling her now, hurricanes or not!!

Shannon,

There is a Big Mardi Gras party on Tuesday night that is a blast. The masks are not required, but will add to your fun. We had several passengers ask us where we got them as they were not available to buy on the ship. Even Todd and the social hosts commented about us to the other guests!! It was great fun. You will see the info about the party in the capers.
