Has anyone done this?

We booked this year's cruise onboard our cruise last year, but they said they couldn't do the pre hotel, to check with our TA when when got home. As we are going to London, I like to go a day early just in case something comes up. Well I didn't talk to my TA until it was too late to get a hotel room through RCL. As we have RCL doing our air too, I had her ask them, since when you do their air the ride from the airport to the ship is included, what if we got a hotel near the airport on our own and then get back to the airport the next morning in time for the trip to the port; and they said that would be fine. As we are Diamond members (yes we should know better by now :D), the air deviation won't be a problem.

 

Has anyone ever done this before? If so did you have any problems?
