Who else has 'em? Gold Doubloons from Labadee!

Recommended Posts

We were going through a box of trinkets and treasures tonight, and my daugher was pretty intrigued by that leather bag with the big heavy golden coins inside that are stamped with the crown and anchor.

In 1988 when we went to Labadee, there were no boarding cards to handle the drink purchases on Labadee, so the ship sold gold doubloons on board, that you could use ashore to pay for your drinks. I kept a couple as souvenirs, along with the handsome leather bag that has the Labadee logo stamped on it. I wonder if any other people on the boards tucked a few of those away.

Granted, the cards are a much more convenient way to pay for purchases ... but it's not nearly as much fun as determining how many doubloons you needed for a drink and then handing over the required number of heavy golden coins.

WOw, I too was cleaning out some dresser drawers and came across a few of those gold coins. So glad I saved a few. Labadee has remained one of my favorite stops. We were in CocoCay last month and it too is nice, but there is just something about Labadee.

We have some! A few months ago I was going through some boxes which had our old photo albums, trying to find "proof" of my past cruises for the Crown & Anchor club, and came across some of them. My daughter thinks they're the neatest thing and she already has a souvenir from Labadee. :D
