natalie2727 Posted July 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2005 I read an article in my local paper that suggested that cruisers take a small crocheted bag that goes across the body so that hands can be free, and you can dance if you want, or just not lose your purse! I am picturing a small, casual-to-dressy off-white or beige crocheted purse with beading, that would look good with light-colored sundresses or capris. Or if not crocheted, just a small bag with a shoulder strap. Has anyone found anything like this on the web?
Jane110 Posted July 10, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2005 I disagree with your local paper. It sounds like the kind of advice that would be given to someone out in a big city. Seems a bit too cautious for me. Maybe I'm naive, but I've never worried about my leaving my handbag on the table on a cruise. There's very little money in it, my cabin # isn't on the S&S card. Though I like to have it in my sightline, I don't feel the need for my handbag to be strapped to my body while I'm dancing. On any of the cruises I've been on, I've never heard of anyone belonging's being snatched from a public place like the pool, dining room or disco. However, if you feel more comfortable that way, the Sac company makes crocheted purses in all colors and sizes. Jane
joie de vivre Posted July 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2005 I agree with Jane, you really don't need to wear your purse while dancing. I have found when I go ashore I like a bag that I can wear across my shoulders. But for evening I tend to like a clutch or wristlet style bag. In the evenings on a cruise ship you really only need a few items. None of which are worth stealing. If you are worried about leaving your purse you can always hide it under the table or leave it on the chair and push the chair in all the way. Happy ks Posted July 10, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 10, 2005 I've seen women dancing with their purses before! Very funny, especially when the bag has short handles that have to be hand held. When you are on a cruise ship, you really don't need to worry so much. If I have to have cash (casino) I either have DH carry it, or stick it in my bra (retrieval in the loo, privately, don't tell anyone) . Pockets also work for cash. Happy ks Posted July 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2005 Guess what I just found! a bag that attaches to the palm of your hand (via fingers and wrist). I don't know if I would get one, but the idea is clever. http://www.ebags.com/yasmena/single_beaded_bag_black/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=18283 http://www.ebags.com/handbags/shop_by_style/special_occasion_bags/yasmena/category_search/index.cfm?N=4001+2006955+300633&Ne=
natalie2727 Posted July 11, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted July 11, 2005 Happy ks-- that is so cool! Thanks for showing me that. I shouldn't be able to lose one of those!
Ehpride Posted July 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 11, 2005 You should look at Target. We were just there today (Mom and I) and we saw several styles and colors of evening bags with shoulder cords. I'm with you on wanting mine with me because I'm afraid I'd forget it at the table! Plus, we're both naturally cautious.
