sa wingrider Posted October 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2013 Good day, As the title say, is the early or late sitting for dinner the best. We will be traveling on the Indian ocean and sunset will be about 20h00 and sun rise 05h00. For the duration of the cruise (10 days) we will be 8 days on the sea, so our thoughts were if you eat early you will be "hungry" for the midnight buffet ? Please help to make the correct (informed) decision. Regards Johan
senem Posted October 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2013 Hello Johan, I don't know if you plan to see the evening shows but if you'd like to watch the show before dinner than go for the 2nd seating and if you wish to see the show after dinner than go for the first. I don't think getting hungry before the midnight buffet will be an issue but everybody is different for sure. I prefer the 2nd seating because that fits me better coz I guess I eat a lot during lunch/afternoon lol and I do like to have a drink/chat after dinner instead of going directly to the theatre. Personel prefferences but still I wanted to share my opinion :=) Hope you have a wonderfull time on your vacation :o
AmoMondo Posted November 1, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2013 It's a matter of personal preference. I always eat on second sitting regarding of where the cruise is. I like time to unwind and have a pre dinner drink before dinner. At home I rarely eat dinner before 7.30 and often much later. I go to bed later but don't get up at the crack of dawn. It really comes down to what you like to do and when. There is no best sitting as such, it's what suits you best that matters. You can always change if you think you've made a mistake. cjvinthechair Posted November 1, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2013 As often before, I come on a thread ready to make a comment if helpful, & find Mr. AmoMondo has said very much the same as I would have said just before me ! This time, I like the first sitting, however - partly because it suits the digestion, but mainly since after it the evening is your own; show/no show, jazz bar, cinema, casino, karaoke....whatever you fancy, you don't have to keep checking the watch for dinner time. That apart, I agree with AM.
Danbee46 Posted November 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2013 We like the second seating for several reasons: (1) we don't have to rush back from being ashore, (2) we like to have a drink or two before dinner and the late seating accommodates that, (3) we don't hate kids [we have 10 grandchildren] but there are less likely to be children at the late seating, (4) we sometimes like to take a short nap in the late afternoon so that we are ready for the evening's activities. HellouB Posted November 2, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2013 It's all personal preference. I have done different sittings depending on which cruise line. On MSC the dining times vary depending on which itinerary and I find some of the 2nd sitting times too late. I have always booked first sitting on MSC as they do not have the traditional afternoon tea and I tend to go on 1/2 day excursions in the morning so I am able to get ready and hungry enough in time! mrstrod Posted November 2, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2013 It really is a personal preference. We always take the late seating. On port days we find that we enjoy a little nap after our excursions and with late seating we still have plenty of time to shower before dinner. We not very big on going to the shows so that's not a factor for us.
