Gluten free options

Thank you for the information! I am also gluten-free and will be sailing on the Eclipse next week. You mentioned that GF toast and pizza were always available in the Oceanview Cafe. Were these items already out and labeled as such or did you have to ask for them/request them in advance? I was thinking of bringing my own GF bread onboard that I could bring to the OC and toast myself, but wasn't sure if toasters for passenger use are available.

A few years back I brought a certain type of whole grain bread to eat in the morning as they don't (or didn't) have any 100% whole grain bread in the buffet and that is what I prefer in the morning. I'd put a couple slices in a plastic bag to take to the buffet and ask the person at the toast station to toast it for us and never had any issue doing so.

So while I can't comment on whether you need to request GF bread in advance I can say that you shouldn't have a problem getting your own bread toasted. This presumes that the possible cross contamination of putting your own GF bread in a toaster used for regular breads isn't an issue.

It's quite tough to get toast the way I like it when away from home. "Extra crisp" does not translate well - I like mine just shy of burnt!

The toasters in the buffet (conveyor belt style) usually only lightly toast items. I usually have to ask them to put the bread through a second time but have never had an issue getting it done just right evenutally.

Putting a piece of gluten free bread in a toaster used to toast regular bread is a huge issue and shouldn't be done by anyone following a gluten free diet for medical reasons. Since so many are following a gluten free diet for other than medical reasons, you see people approach the diet differently.

This has been a really informative thread, thank you! I've only done one cruise with RC, and had no problem getting GF bread in the MDR - it was actually some of the nicest I had ever tasted! - and everywhere else I admit I didn't really look for it because I'm happy with meat and fruit/veg most of the time! Next year when we go on Solstice I'll have to investigate the options more thoroughly. :)
