pokerpro5 Posted November 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2013 I'll be boarding the NCL Jewel on December 22. I would prefer to buy my own soft drinks and bring them on board (I assume this is allowed, right?) Is there a place to do this, within walking distance? I'm looking to buy six, 12, or 24 packs of cans. I will not have a car. Thanks.
rvsullivan Posted November 28, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2013 Are you staying overnight in NO? In a car, cab? You will not be able to check your soda, so be prepared to carry it on. Depending on where you stay/travel, WalMart is close by, so are a couple of local corner stores and drug stores. If you are on foot not so easy. If your going to the port in a cab, ask them to stop. WLHyatt Posted November 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2013 There are few places within walking distance. Your best bet would be to get the cab driver to hit the walmart that is about a mile from the port. Don't try and walk to this walmart, it is a safe place but the neighborhood around it could be questionable.
pokerpro5 Posted November 28, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted November 28, 2013 I don't think I will be taking any cab. I will be staying the night at Harrah's NO, and I heard it is walking distance from the ship. Am I wrong about that?
WLHyatt Posted November 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2013 It is walkable, but a bit of a haul especially with luggage. For getting to the port I would look at a cab if you are carrying much luggage at all. That bit of information helps though, there is a rouses at St. Peter and Royal and three Walgreens in and near the Quarter. I would go get the drinks the night before the cruise
rvsullivan Posted November 29, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 29, 2013 I don't think I will be taking any cab. I will be staying the night at Harrah's NO, and I heard it is walking distance from the ship. Am I wrong about that? Most of the posts recommend against walking! A very few will tell you it's ok, two ships in port, the mall, which is the shortcut is closed and the street to the pier is vehicles only. At times the cops enforce it and it's not an easy walk. Spring for the $7-9 for a cab and make it easy on yourself. If its hot/cold/rainy you will be glad you did!!
Waterloomarc Posted November 29, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 29, 2013 There's a cvs walking distance from Harrah's just up canal street. It might be Walgreens but same thing ;) I stayed at the Hilton across the street from Harrah's (and actually a smidge closer) and there's no way I'd walk it. Between the traffic and the ground itself no way. Get a cab, it'll only be $10 bucks or so. I drove so can't help with the fare. Take advantage of bring on vacation the hell staff at the casino will collect your bags and load then in the cab for you and the porters will take them out. A much more relaxing way to start your vacation than schlepping bags up the riverfront! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jgmpuma Posted November 29, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 29, 2013 That CVS is at 800 Canal, about 5 blocks from the Harrah's hotel.
