We spent a day on HMC in the Private Oasis and loved it. After reading all the negative reviews about HMC and snorkeling I was very skeptical about snorkeling. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fish we saw, Boga,Sergeant Major, Redfin Needlefish, Brown Chromis, Barracuda, Pluma Porgy, Ballyhoo. Love it!!

What is HMC the abbreviation for?

I tried a search and found a lot of hospitals.

While there is decent snorkeling at HMC, its nowhere near the Private Oasis! That end of the beach is desolate, which is why they threw a handful of artificial structures onto the sandy bottom. Those structures may attract a few fish, but anyone that has visited an actual reef will be terribly disappointed!

If you want enjoyable snorkeling on this island, without paying for an excursion, you have to walk to the far end of the beach. There, you can find some small patches of coral, submerged pillars from a long-forgotten pier, and a wrecked barge filled with sea-life.
