Here's another offer we had last Jan

1. Sensation 3 nt

2. 4-5 days before

3. 3 people

4. Inside GTY

5. Offer for Jr suite for $400, Owners suite for $1600

My husband wanted the owners suite but I didn't want to pay that much. We took the Jr Suite but found out the hard way that Jr Suites on the fantasy ships aren't that great. Had an awesome cruise nonetheless.

Thanks to all of those who share such great information with fellow cruisers. Here is our upsell, which we accepted:

1) Phone call from CCL Cabin Sales Specialist three days before cruise out of Galveston on CCL Triumph.

2) Original booking made on a Casino Rate July 2013. Four people (insane? yes...used to it? yes) in an Ocean View Aft Cabin on Riviera (1st) Deck. Total Price: $924.00 for 4 day January 9, 2014 cruise.

3) Two offers:

a. Upgrade to 6th Deck Aft Balcony for $242.00 more; or

b. Upgrade to Ocean Suite for $432.00 more.

We chose the Ocean Suite. The Ocean Suite upgrade would have costs us about $1,050.00 more to book through Carnival....so more than a 50% discount to upgrade and more room. Not a steal, but reasonable value.

I don't know if this helped, but I told our PVP when we booked that we would love to hear of any discounted upgrades if they were available. He said he would note that on my account.

I was told I got the call because we had a four person room and this Ocean Suite accommodated four people.....and because this was our fourth cruise with Carnival. I highly suspect I got the call because I asked to be on the last minute upgrade list, if such a list exists.

It makes sense to me that, at the last minute, CCL would want to target people for upsell phone calls that have expressed an interest in discounted upgrades......targeted marketing when time is of the essence.

Lastly, I think if you are interested in an upgrade you need to be ready to act fast. Of course, the opportunities are limited and the offer may well be gone if you need to think about whether to accept it. I made the mistake of taking too long on a Holland America upgrade to a suite when we cruised to Alaska.

The email was released, called within minutes, three suites available when I called, all booked after I discussed the offer with the consultant for three or four minutes. I did not ask CCL if the offer could be held for an hour because I was ready to act.....but be prepared to act quickly.

There are probably better offers, but we were glad to get ours. I did not try to negotiate the offer. Best wishes to all of you for happy cruising.

This was an offer to my mom but I did the booking so they called me and I passed on the info.

1) 8 days Carnival Splendor

2) 9 days before sailing

3) 2 people

4) Booked a military guaranteed. Got 8D Balcony on Empress

5) Offered an Ocean Suite on Empress for $199 a person

They did not take it bc they were already happy with their room. They received a free upgrade at check in on our 2005 cruise while also under military rate. Just food for thought.

I will debunk your theory just a little. Have used the same PVP for the last 8 years. He knows we may be interested in upgrades/upsells. We have booked rooms from OV to OS. Never received an upsell or upgrade offer from CCL.

Well, my DW agreed 47 years ago (June) to marry me, so I would consider myself the lucky one. All I'm saying is although our PVP knows of our interest in upgrade/upsell, never received a call or Email, so not sure a list even exists.

Valor, February, 2013

Called about 5 days before sailing

Had booked 4J on deck 10

Offered aft balcony on deck 8

for $360 total

Declined as we wanted to keep costs down.

It was a very port intensive cruise so it wouldn't have been worth it to us.

We enjoyed the 4J!

Wow, it appears they are often wanting to upsell the suites. ....
