FF Woman Posted December 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2013 My DH would like to have a meal of clams and mussels while we are in NO. Any suggestions on a restaurant? It doesn't need to be anything fancy, just some good food. I'd prefer shrimp or crawfish or something else so a varied menu would be good. We will be in the French Quarter and are staying in the garden district so anyplace handy to either location would be fine.
jgmpuma Posted December 17, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Clams and mussels are not local seafood. They usually show up as appetizers, and tend to be expensive. Stick with the local products: shrimp, oysters, crawfish, crabs and fish. Deanie's on Iberville Street would be a good choice. Quality is very good, locally owned, prices are reasonable and portions large.
nolatravelgirl Posted December 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2013 I would pass on Deanie's unless you want a heart attack on plate of fried seafood. If you want fried, then go for it, but the rest of their seafood is pretty mediocre. There are much better places for seafood than Deanie's. I would try Red Fish Grill, Acme Oyster House, Pascal's Manale or Drago's. http://www.redfishgrill.com/ http://www.acmeoyster.com/ http://www.dragosrestaurant.com/ http://pascalsmanale.com/
WLHyatt Posted December 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2013 I personally like Deanies, but most any seafood place will be good. Acme is good too, and a bit better known than Deanies.
rvsullivan Posted December 21, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2013 You are certainly not going to find clams or mussels in New Orleans. Those are East or West Coast foods. Shrimp, oysters, crabs etc. in New Orleans.
Reggiefan Posted December 22, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 22, 2013 Tough question. GW Fins in the FQ is a seafood restaurant that gets some seafood from outside the region. But New Orleans restaurants rely heavily on local seafood, and clams and mussels appear on the menu of very few restaurants. There are some French bistro type restaurants that may feature mussels. You may wish to do a Google search.
