We are cruising on the Dawn in January,I am wondering if its possible to do a trip to the beach on our own, in costa mayo or Roatan. from reading the forums most folks seem to either go on ships excursions or with another tour guide. We prefer to go it alone if possible. Will there be beach loungers and parasols for hire without going to an all inclusive resort?and how safe is it? Any help will be appreciated as we are new to the Carribean cruises

You can definitely do almost anything you want on your own from the cruise ship. No need to go through the shore excursions if you're comfortable with getting your own transportation and making sure you're back at the ship prior to sailing.

In Roatan, there are plenty of beaches you can go to. Tabyana beach is wonderful, with a beautiful reef you can swim to and snorkel right off the beach.

Check out the ports of call boards, as suggested.
