First Time Alaska Cruisetour Question

To those of you who have done a Princess Alaska cruisetour....

Do you recommend taking two pieces of luggage...a carry on for the tour part then a regular bag for the cruise? I do not have a carry on and am trying to decide if I need to purchase one. I would like to know how those of you have done it in the past. Thank you for your help.

I didn't do a Princess cruisetour, mine was on HAL, but we were told to take our large suitcase (that went with us on the land portion until Fairbanks), then have a smaller carry-on to go on the train to/from Denali.

We also had small canvas tote bags from HAL that we carried with us in our lap or on the floor at our feet.

There should be instructions from Princess as to what is recommended. Each cruisetour can be different depending on your itinerary. Have a great trip!

According to past participants on Princess cruisetours, if you do the tour part first, you can send a suitcase/bag to the ship from the first land-tour hotel and the bag will wait for you in your cabin when you get to the ship after the tour.

We did a thirteen night (plus 2 extras as we arrived in Fairbanks early) and on the day we left Fairbanks for Denali our luggage was separated. We were given tags to mark what was taken to the ship and what went to our next destination. Worked great, at every destination hotel and on the ship our luggage was waiting for us. For the land portion you do need a small carry-on for laptop, night clothes, and personal items (razors, toothbrushes, make-up, etc).

We are doing the land tour first. I will have to check into getting a carry on and then let my regular suitcase be packed for the cruise portion and send it on to the ship. Thank you all for your suggestions! I have never done a cruise/tour and this will be my first trip to Alaska, so it is all new to me.

We did a 15 day Princess cruise tour. They will send you tags. One regular size suitcase - casual clothes for the land portion and another regular size- your dressier things for the cruise portion. The first one will appear each time in the hotels and be picked up when it is time to move on. The cruise one will show up in your cabin when you get to your ship. They do this very well. The carry-on is to transport your valuables- pills, jewelry, any thing that you might really need or need to keep track of during the day. It need only be big enough to carry those items. Some people used regular carry-ons, some used back packs. The size matters because it has to fit either under a seat, on your lap, or in an over-the -head bin (on the bus). when you get to the ship you can either send out clothes to the laundry or do them yourself in the self-serve laundry. I took purex laundry sheets (detergent and softener all in one), but there are vending machines in the laundry with all that you will need. You can get change at the purser's desk or in the casino. Have a wonderful time.
