Reciprocity Fee

This is the question I would like to see addressed:

Scenario:

Flying from US to Valparaiso.

Boarding ship in Valparaiso.

Departing ship in Buenos Aires directly to the airport for flight to US.

Who would check to see if Argentine fee had been paid, and at what point in the trip?

Argentina immigration would check at the port.

I have no idea whether the cruise line checks prior boarding, but I would assume their policies would be similar to airlines.

That's been so for awhile.

The question seems to be : Can you now board the ship without proof of having paid?

When is this checked, and by whom?

We boarded our HAL South American cruise in Rio this past December. The cruise line checked that we had the Argentinian fee receipts before allowing us to board. Just like an airline, the cruise line is responsible for making sure that its passengers have the correct documentation. So, the answer would be no, you cannot board your cruise without the fee receipts.

A few years ago, a RCCL cruise was going around the horn. RCCL doesn't usually do these cruises. It was a very popular cruise. 150 people were denied boarding because they didn't have the Brazilian visa.

Here's a thread discussing this issue http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1463293&highlight=mariner+of+the+seas+brazil+visa
