junglecat Posted January 7, 2014 Author #76 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Similar situation. BFF's DS was to leave Sunday from Indy. Her flight was canceled the night before. None of the four going had bought insurance! They got someone to take them to Louisville at 10 Sunday night. It's about a 2 hour drive from Indy. They were able to catch a flight at 10. Over 12 hours of stress and worry, but all worked out for them.
canadian85 Posted January 7, 2014 #77 Share Posted January 7, 2014 We booked our flight and cruise with no insurance. We don't have extra funds to fly into this first port. We flew into Tampa morning of departure, and flew out to Detroit morning of arrival. In winter. With 2 young kids. All of this was really stupid. We've never had insurance in the past either, but this trip was the eye opener. Before we left I applied for a credit card (Capital One) with cancellation/ interruption insurance etc and the cost is $120 per year. Alot cheaper than regular travel insurance, and good for peace of mind. Luckily our flight wasn't cancelled (it was delayed) but there were alot of cancellations to the north because of winter storm.
