Pre-cruise hotel when flying into Long Beach. Stay near airport or San Pedro port?

Can't decide whether to stay near airport for free airport shuttle then taxi to port next AM or pay for taxi to hotel near port and take free shuttle to port? Cost make a difference? Thanks in advance
