Scuba Shore Excursion off Rhapsody?

If you would like some advise about booking your own dive excursion, I would be glad to offer my opinions;

I went with http://www.neptunesdivers.com and had a very enjoyable time. I give them my recommendation.

If you are looking to save some money and do a shore dive, Grand Cayman is a excellent store for shore diving. I can offer 3 options:

  1. Eden Rock. This site is the closest to where the tenders dock in Georgetown, just a couple of blocks to the right. There are 2 dive shops right by it for gear rentals. They won't rent gear to a solo diver from what I have been told. You can just wait there and try to hook up with a buddy or 2. It shouldn't be a long wait. The 2 shops are http://www.edenrockdive.com and http://www.abanksdivers.com.ky
  2. A bit further from the tender dock, but still within walking distance is Sunset House. They have an on-site dive shop and you can to a shore dive there. There will probably be less people at this site than at Eden Rock.
  3. Take a taxi to http://www.divetech.com and do a shore dive at their turtle farm location. This will probably be the best of the 3 shore dive sites on my list. The gear rental is a bit more expensive here, but if you don't have a buddy, you can arrange a guided dive here.

If you do end up with a ship's dive excursion, then Red Sail is the dive shop RCI uses.

Thank you bruce-r! My son is recently certified and wants to go on our family reunion cruise, if he can scuba dive. He will be the only diver in our group so I thought it would be best for him to go with a shore excursion.

Since he is new to scuba diving, perhaps the guided dive would be the best choice for him in Grand Cayman.

Thanks for your recommendations! I'll pass them along to him.

The guided dive would be a good choice, but so would a boat dive with Keith and Casey of Neptune's divers. They only take out a max of 8 divers and I'm sure they would do a good job of looking after your son.
