serenagurl Posted January 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2014 We are going to be in San Juan from 3-10, given the times that places close, is it possible to see at least one of the forts, and do the rum tour (all on our own)? How long is the rum tour (including travel back to port)? Thanks :)

How long is the rum tour (including travel back to port)? Thanks :) You can easily do the rum tour on your own, but you'd need to give yourself a good 3 hours to get there and back as you have to take a ferry to another part of the island. I'm not sure what time the last tour is, but you might want to find out to make sure you'd have plenty of time. However, if you choose to do the rum factory, the forts would be closed before you got back. It would only cost about $7 round trip if you do the tour on your own compared to whatever the cruiseline charges. If this is your first trip to San Juan, I'd definitely skip the rum tour and go to the forts and hang around Old San Juan. There is plenty to see and do there and you'd miss the best parts if you do the Bacardi tour. With a walking map, you can easily do Old San Juan on your own unless you want a guide to give you info as you go. There is also a free trolley that will take you around town if you get tired of walking. It is a few blocks uphill to walk from the port to El Morro. I'd head straight there before it closes and then slowly meander your way back towards the port when you are done.
trish1c Posted January 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2014 During those hours you will not be able to do both. One will be closed for the day by the time you finish the 1st.
