Embarkation Time for Jewel out of Dover?

There is no exact answer that can be given, even if we knew the time that your ship is scheduled to dock from its prior cruise. That's because there are many factors that could cause the disembarkation to be delayed (e.g., something that holds up clearing customs; passengers not settling their onboard accounts; etc.). However, IF the ship returns on time, they will probably start embarkation roughly 4 or 5 hours later.

You then have to decide whether you want to deal with longer lines and crowds in order to get onboard sooner. Some people very much want to start their cruise asap and are willing to get to the port before embarkation actually starts. Furthermore, it can be more chaotic, especially if you arrive around the time that the previous ship's passengers are disembarking.

If you want to avoid the lines and spend much less time dealing with lines, crowds and chaos, then plan to arrive an hour or two before the ship is scheduled to sail. But remember to build in a buffer. Obviously, missing the ship would be a bad way to start a cruise.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

The cruise is on Norwegian Jewel departing from Dover to Europe next month, I really should have mentioned that - sorry.

Don't really know what time to get there as we want to make the most of that day on the ship.

Here is my guess and just a guess. Your cruise departs at 6 PM. If you are on the maiden the 2 day mini gets in at 9am. I would think boarding would begin around 1 pm.

The last two times we went from dover we arrived between 10:30 and 11:00 and were on the ship sipping drinks by 12 noon. It all depends on how quickly they can disembark the last cruise passengers. You will get a clue when the luggage chute outside of the main entrance opens up for business. You can leave your luggage there and go on in to book onto the cruise and get your ships docs.It generally opens up when the last passengers have been cleared from the luggage shed.

the ship is almost obscured by the pier building butyou can get agood shot from the end of the pier.Alternatively you get a good shot across the harbour from the churchill hotel on the crescent on the sea front.
