deecruise2 Posted July 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2005 We have booked that hotel for our precruise in November. Does anyone have any recent experience there? From what I have read it is in a good location, but would like some confirmation on that. Thanks!:D
TrentS Posted July 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2005 Well it's an okay location... It's a safe area, but rather isolated. There's a Publix in a small strip mall across the street but not much else around it. It's not like the SE 17th Street area in Fort Lauderdale where you have everything you could possibly want within walking distance.
deecruise2 Posted July 19, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted July 19, 2005 Do you have any suggestions on another hotel that would work for us? there are 2 families of 5 and would like to stay around the $125 range. Thanks for your tips!
TrentS Posted July 19, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2005 The SE 17th Street area is the most convenient for cruisers, particularly if you don't have a rental car. It's a very safe area that's closer to the airport, and just outside the entrance to Port Everglades with many many shops, restaurants, and everything else you could possibly want within easy walking distance. The following hotels are in that area... Holiday Inn Express (site seems to be down at the moment, but it's the "Convention Center" location at 1500 SE 17th Street)... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc Extended Stay America... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html Renaissance... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLBR Embassy Suites... http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=FLLSOES Marina Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLFL Amerisuites (mixed reviews on quality of rooms)... http://amerisuites.com/reservations/locationdetail.asp?facid=3929
deecruise2 Posted July 19, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted July 19, 2005 Thanks TrentS!:D Do you know if the beach is across the street from these hotels?
TrentS Posted July 19, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 19, 2005 No, the beach is a little over a mile to the east, those are all on the mainland side of the Intracoastal Waterway. If you want something on the beach I would recommend the following... Harbor Beach Marriott (directly on the nicest part of Fort Lauderdale Beach)... http://www.marriottharborbeach.com/ Lago Mar (very nice older hotel on the same beach as the Marriott above)... http://www.lagomar.com/ Pelican Beach Resort (beautiful new hotel directly on the north end of Fort Lauderdale Beach, nothing within walking distance though)... http://www.pelicanbeach.com/ Bahia Mar (formerly the Radisson.. older hotel across the street from the beach.. I haven't been in it lately, but many on here seem to think it's fine)... http://www.bahiamarhotel.com/ Hollywood Beach Marriott (new hotel directly on Hollywood Beach, a quieter area with a very nice beach that many on here also like)... http://www.hollywoodbeachmarriott.com/
deecruise2 Posted July 21, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted July 21, 2005 TrentS, Thanks for your help. I booked The Holiday Express on 17th Street. Hopefully there will be enough there to keep our kids busy! Thanks again!
legalslave Posted July 25, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2005 Deecruise, glad you switched to Holiday Inn Express. We stayed at that Sleep Inn April, 2004 and it was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The front desk staff was unbelievable rude to every guest they encountered. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Diane
