Trio dining credit converted to UDP? Anyone done it?

My booking on our Getaway cruise had the "trio dining" thing (sorry don't remember the name of its the thing where you get 3 specialty dinings one in each of three specialty restaurants.) included as a promo along with gratuities and shipboard credit.

I had planned on purchasing the UDP as I am not a fan of MDR.

Does anyone know or has anyone done it where you can maybe apply the value of the trio to the UDP? The appeal of the UDP vs Trio is flexibility to eat in a specialty restaurant multiple times and to pick which ones vs trio where it is specified which three are included.

Usually perks that come with promos are not changeable. On the other hand many times the dining perks do come as OBC so you unofficially could not even go to the speciality restaurants and still get the OBC that can be used to other things - however there is no way of knowing how it will go before you have boarded, if you just get the OBC then you could purchase the UDP onboard.

Ok, so can I just through something out here?

You say you have 3 free dinners. On a 7 day cruise, that leaves 4 days.

Four dinners at Cagney's $30 X4 = $120....UDP is $119

The other specialty restaurants are much less than Cagney's....

Still need the UDP?

Excellent post. Doesn't seem worth the effort when you put it that way. Also, if you have a day where the ship leaves at say 10 pm you can skip paying for a specialty restaurant and instead try a local place to eat.

Now you have me thinking. When you apply the value of the trio (when offered was sold for $47) and subtract it from the $119, divided by the remaining four days, unless I am going to eat at Cagneys every night and based on the cost of the different restaurants it would pretty much be a wash. Not worth the bother. Now if Ocean Blue was included in the UDP.....
