Hotels in Rome

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions for a nice and reasonably priced hotel in Rome? We are spending the night before our end of September cruise in Rome and would appreicate any suggestions?

You are going to get a lot of replies to this I will assume, but if you go back on this board 1 or 2 pages you will see quite a few postings about hotels in Rome..more than a few.. I would chose something in the city center where you can walk to some sights as well as places to eat to get the flair for Rome as it is a wonderful city.Prices can be high in Rome as it is so popular this year and Sept. is still high season.Another good way to check out some hotels is on TripAvisor and Venere, and I have put the links belpw..Good luck and enjoy your stya in Rome allbeit short.

I would highly recommend Hotel Concordia. It is reasonably priced. Rooms not very large, but impeccably clean. Nice roof terrace. A few minute walk to Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps. Very efficient and informative staff.

When we were in Rome eight years ago, we had a most enjoyable stay in a convent overlooking a wonderful piazza. There was a market during the day, and families gathered in the evenings to visit with neighbors, watch the children play, etc. It was located in the heart of the historical center-a few minutes walk to Saint Peter's Basilica. It was a very special place to stay-and very reasonable. They have a web site if you are interested.....

We spent four nights in Rome last May in advance of an RSSC cruise. The cruise line's hotel options were just too pricey and our agent hadn't turned up much else that represented a savings. So we researched on Trip Advisor and chose http://www.htlsantamaria.com/ - Hotel Santa Maria. It's in Trastevere near the Piazza Santa Maria - an old and charming part of town, really unique, with many great restaurants. Located south of the river from much of Rome, we found it very central - but we like to walk A LOT - and walk long distances every day - so we found the location perfectly central to everywhere we wanted to go - but the taxi stand is nearby if you prefer to ride. The hotel is very small, about 20 rooms, a converted convent, incredibly cute. There's a breakfast room with very tasty food in the morning and fabulous cappacinos. You can also take your breakfast out into the courtyard under some small orange trees. The room are quite small - but very clean with decent bathrooms and very good service. Problem is that depending on room location, people (especially children) in the courtyard can be noisy and annoying if you're trying to sleep in or turn in early. We had the hotel arrange for a car to meet us at the airport (smart because the hotel is very hard to find if the driver isn't familiar with it) and a car to the port (convenient and comfortable but expensive - still it was worth it). All in all, we enjoyed our stay in this charming little inn.

If you want modern and can afford more, look at the Hilton Cavaliere. It is a beautiful hotel in an upscale residential area up on a hill above the city. The view is spectacular and the rooms are very nice and modern, plus a great pool and spa-like facilities. You can't walk to any of the big tourist sites but the hotel does run a free shuttle in and out of town. We love this upscale place when we're spending a little more.
